OT: Phils fire Girardi

Wins vs size of team payroll had to be worst or nearly worst in MLB.

Lots of problems -- offense was overly dependent on HR's, couldn't string hits together to score runs, too many low Batting Average players in lineup, bad defense in CF, LF, 3B, lacked good closer, pitchers overall subject to big innings against them, etc. etc.

I guess the Manager becomes the fall guy. Who next? don't know.

built the wrong team - I knew she; they dumped money on Schwarber they would regret it - he hasn’t been the same since he lost weight and was let go by the Cubs. I have never seen such an wasted payroll - where is the money going?

As they say....can't fire the players....LOL
I'm a lifelong Yankee fan. Girardi did a good job for them IMO. However, he's a pro and knows that it goes with the territory.

I'm going to disagree with the sentiment that it was the wrong move. I think it was the correct move and here's why. The Phils aren't clutch. They play tight. They don't hit for several games in near shut out losses and then unload a bunch after they are up big or down big. That's management IMO. He had them playing tight. Plus they've made so many boneheaded mistakes. Get rid off Girardi and take the pressure off these guys. I'm guessing they'll play better.

Wrong on Schwaber, he was fabulous last year with Washington and Boston.

Any ideas on who the long term replacement might be?
This calls for a Dallas Green type move, just as the farm system has no one the coaching tree has no one. As much as I could not stand Kapler guessing he could do a better job with this group.

Yeah that’s right, you sign players who are defensive liabilities and when they can’t field and make bone-headed decisions; it’s Girardi’s fault. I’m a Braves’ fan but think this was done because when the team underperforms, you fire the manager. Absolutely disagree that this Girardi’s fault. IMO Dombrowski is the one who should go But I have been wrong before. Maybe they will be nice and lose when they play Trout, Ohtani and the rest of the Angels who haven’t fired their manager even though they have lost 8 in a row.

Well they did say a couple of years ago they planned to spend “stupid” money and then went out and proved it.

Lenny Dykstra has been agitating for the Phillies manager job even before Girardi was fired. In case you don't know, Lenny has had a checkered post-baseball career and spent some time in jail for bankruptcy fraud and plus he has no managerial experience so there's now way he'll get the job, which I suspect he knows. But his Twitter feed can be pretty entertaining sometimes. He's kinda wild.

He tweeted if he was Phillies manager he'd do whatever it takes to win. Someone responded with "Does that include blowing lines and strippers?" Here's Lenny's response.

agree. dumbrowski's thrown $$$ around for 2 years now, and still hasn't figured out that they really need a big time proven closer. the number of games they've lost the last year+ is criminal. he's the one they ought to fire.

Nails was my favorite player on that ‘93 team that played Toronto in the World Series. To this day, I remember his two home runs in game 4. He also missed a 3rd HR in that game by three feet.

Harper’s grand slam from Sunday

Stott’s walkoff 3-run HR from Sunday

Dykstra is nuts. Not in a good way.
yeah, he was a great player when he came up for I think the Mets. just a baller. than he started roiding up and went off the deep end. had some bad money issues as well.

Schwarber had the best season of his career last year … his first season not being a member of the Cubs
