Ernie Oelbermann, former owner ('68-'00) of The Phyrst and leader of the locally famous band that played there, has passed away at 90 in Florida.

I spent entirely too many Saturday nights as an undergrad in The Phyrst. Fortunately, my off-key signing was drowned out by the equally toneless melodies of my buddies. I recall Ernie had two attractive daughters who played in the band at various times.

Sorry to hear. I also spent many fun evenings at the phyrst in the 90's. He was slow moving back then but always pleasant. Be well, sir.

RIP Ernie. He was a State College institution. He was a good man and will be sorely missed.

It's a Saturday Night, a Saturday Night, we all get together on a Saturday Night.
What do we do, we go down to the Phyrst and suck some brews.

Great times playing in the Jug Band here and there.
