OT:Ranking Roger from The English Beat passed away...

Some might know him better from this song by General Public, a spinoff of The English Beat. I didn't know exactly which The English Beat members made up General Public but I just looked it up and Ranking Roger was one of them.

I don't know much about The English Beat but from what little I know my favorite song would be this one.

Got to see English Beat (sans Ranking Roger) open up for Squeeze a few years ago at Keswick. They were terrific. Wakeling still brings it.
I saw Wakeling perform as the band, despite being the only original about 10 years ago at the old DoubleDoor in Chicago. I thought the floor was going to collapse during Mirror in a Bathroom. The frequency of the dancing just about hit the wrong harmonic like the Tacoma Narrows bridge.

General Public played a mid-90's HFStival. We were up in the seats taking a break from being down on the field and they start playing 'Mirror in the Bathroom.' My friend looks at me as just says we have to go down there now.

Dave still tours almost non stop. He is in Philly regularly. A good friend of mine is a very close friend of Dave's. Have been out to dinner with Dave several times and he is such a nice, kind person. Still sounds the same and brings it. Highly recommend anyone go to see the Beat that hasn't. Dave and the Beat just released their first album in years in 2018. It's called Here We Go Love... Linked the whole album below for those who missed it.

Yea I think that was the '95 HFStival. I liked it better when they had the first few at Fairfax Park but my God it was hot.
That was a great station in the 90's.

I loved HFS got turned onto it in high school. The good old days when the age was 18 in DC and we all had fakes from poster board.

Everyone I know who talked to him has had nothing but good things to say about him.
Great dude all around and supported other artists. RIP Roger.

Going to see The Specials in June in Brooklyn. Can't wait

Wakeling's incarnation is apparently playing shows out here. Would be interesting to catch one, maybe this weekend.

Pietasters played a two day ska fest in the HUB ballroom when I was a freshman. Continued to see them play in SC, then DC and Baltimore after graduation. I think i'm up over 20 times.

Do you guys remember “the Pietasters” a local DC band from the early 90’s.
I used to follow jerry berry and Alasha in Georgetown. They like Letters To Cleo did a great cover of cruel to be kind. You could always count on seeing tons of models at their shows.

Piestasters got a bit of airplay (even MTV) with a "Out All Night."

They still play shows, I think only Steven Jackson is left from this era.
