OT: Ron Hextall out as Flyers GM.

Been here since 2014.
Where are all these great prospects we keep hearing about?
One can only do so much is Juniors or the AHL.

While Coach Haxtol still stays this team well before him has played very poor fundemental Hockey.
Everyone wants to blame goaltending. But there is so much more up front.
They don't clear the crease very well
They don't clear the zone very well
Don't play well in the neutral zone.
Not very Physical
Not much grit.
They get pushed off the puck to much.
They don't pass very well.
To many give aways.

They need to produce this year, but they have regressed. I imagine the coach will be let go as well, as wholesale changes are needed. Not sure who the likely candidates for GM and eventually the coach will be. Any speculation? This franchise has been inbred with former Flyers for far too long.

Disappointed, went to 6th grade with Ron in PGH. His dad played for the Pens.

Do not know if you watched, but the Toronto 6-0 loss was to put it mildly grounds for something.

I’ve seen two issues over the past couple years. Goaltending is well documented as they have had constant injury issues and inconsistent performance.

The other problem is they lack top end young talent. They simply can’t compete with the teams with young stars. Toronto blew them out and they didn’t even have Matthews. Guys like Patrick and Konecny are nice players but they need to get to another level. Same with #9.

Comcast bought out Ed Sniders shares the beginning of last season.
Hextall had the right plan. Build from within.
However he has not drafted and or developed enough players.
The farm system has not produced enoug.
Once you draft a player how much time can he spend in Juniors or the AHL?
You should know after 3 years. Hextall started in 2014.
Its beginning to look like Nolan Patrick is leaning toward the bust side.

Agree, I think pressure was put on to remove the coach. Their special teams have been abysmal, with no change there either.

I think Hextall did an outstanding job of getting them out of cap Hell, why he was the first to go is beyond me. I disagree with those that say there is not enough young talent on the team. Now, you could state the case that he let young players sit in the AHL too long, but that was his MO, so you knew what you were signing up for when you brought him in.

I would have liked to have seen him get another year to continue to sign vets and bring up the draft picks, but he will not get the chance here.

Lord knows who Holmgren will bring “in”, this feels like a step backwards, having Paul in charge again.
