Broken Arrow, OK.

Wants to be just like their esteemed big brothers American, Delta, and United. While this press release puts a positive spin on the changes, I don't think the average SWA customer will see these changes as anything but negative and will further blur the lines between Southwest and the legacy carriers.

Yep. They are eroding services (bags, miles) in order to effectively raise prices. SW, once the best and most innovative carrier, is now just another provider. What is funny is that they want to charge for bags which causes people to do more carry-on luggage. They then beg you to check your carry-on luggage (for free, in most cases) at the gate because they don't have the overhead space.

United is my primary airline and has been for decades. Years ago, the CEO decided the world was moving to low cost airlines like Spirit and tried to get United to move in that direction. If you fly United, you'll notice that they have the worst gates at almost every airport. They did this to get cheaper fees from the airports. That persists to this day.

I was loyal to American as a business traveler for decades. After retirement, I switched to Southwest because of their Companion Pass. My wife and I travel together now and the CP lets one of us fly free. The only time we check bags (usually) is when we’re bring home some Yuengling 😂.

With the Credit Card one bag will still be free.

Not a huge change for us as long as I can keep earning the CP. if that goes away, I’ll be back to American.

During a tough money stretch during the mid 2010s I used SW exclusively for flights for college visits and family weddings. We have great credit and every 2 years they would give us a sign up option with 100,000 mile spiff. Probably did that flip 4 times each for both me and my wife.....

Often their prices out of BWI were cheaper than PHL and there were more non stops to cities like LA.

Don't fly much anymore- but if I did I would not expect that they would be my automatic carrier of choice.

Sad.....but is the way it is.
