That’s the prevailing wisdom. If Strasburg has re-signed, then bye bye Rendon. Hope the Phillies go hard after him.
It is, and it's probably true, but....That’s the prevailing wisdom.

You would think at some point the owners would realize what a bad deal these high priced free agents are....It's not like basketball, where one player makes a huge difference. You would think that the Phils would serve as the latest (of many) examples....
Particularly with pitchers' proclivity for major injuries and their tendency to fall of the map without warning. That said, the baseball system is so skewed toward larger market teams with huge broadcast rights compensation that it doesn't seem to hurt them regardless. Seeing guys playing a game getting paid this sort of money makes one wonder about our priorities as a society. Just my opinion, but it's beyond stupid. You would think at some point the owners would realize what a bad deal these high priced free agents are....It's not like basketball, where one player makes a huge difference. Historically, I’d agree. However, stras has developed off speed options that might suggest he could hang around a while. And of course people said the same of scherzwr.I think this is a bad move by Washington.
It might look smart in 2020 and 2021.
After that they have five more years with an aging pitcher who has a huge contract. I'm really not so sure they should have given 7 years. More money and less years might have been the way to go.
The problem is giving older players long term deals. It's all good for a few years until the player declines and the team is stuck with the rest of the contract. You would think at some point the owners would realize what a bad deal these high priced free agents are....It's not like basketball, where one player makes a huge difference. The Angels are a textbook case study in mismanagement. The fact that they are wasting Trout's prime years due to poor financial decisions is an all-time travesty. After watching the Angels slowly choke to death on Josh Hamilton 5 years 125$ million and Albert Puljos 10 years $240 million not to mention, CJ Wilson and Joe Blanton, I have to agree. They got basically nothing for any of these guys and shredded any chance of winning for years. Better to build from the draft and take your whipping for a few years as they develop if you ask me.
