The wife and I had our first night out a couple of weeks ago since having our first child. We headed down to Denver to see a show/concert. A few days later, the below letter, along with $22 was in our mailbox -- From our Uber driver.

Obviously our first thought was to somehow do something back for the driver, but 1) The only way we know to contact him is through the app, and all that correspondence goes through Uber -- and we're not sure how they would feel about this; and 2) We're not sure he really would really like that (us doing something nice back) anyway, and so we're looking to pay this forward.

Sure, $22 isn't much, but we were so struck by the thought and graciousness, we would like to pay it forward somehow, and hopefully provide someone else with the same positive vibes we got from this kind gesture.

Any thoughts/ideas? TIA.

Eat lunch TODAY (say 11:30-ish) at Wayne's BBQ in Superior and pay for the lunch of anyone you see wearing a Penn State football 2016 B1G Champions ballcap.

The next time you're at a drive-through, pay the tab of the patron driver behind you.

p.s. This was a pretty cool gesture on Howard's behalf.

Send a text/email to Uber praising the driver. Or their FB page or whatever works best....maybe all of the above. Don't go into details cause going back to someone's home may be a no-no. Just say what a great guy he is and how happy you are with his service.

Always good to have 'the boss' know your customers appreciate your efforts.

just like in sports, let the game come to you.

Last summer, I took my daughter out and we stopped at a subway. After getting the sandwiches made, I realized I had forgotten my wallet. A guy jumped up and paid my bill. When I asked for his contact information to pay him back, he simply said "pay it forward." Last week, the guy behind me forgot to bring his wallet at the grocery store. He realized it as he was putting his stuff on the belt. I paid for it. As he thanked me and asked me what he could do, I shook his hand and said "pay it forward."

Good stuff...TCF....I commend you for paying it forward.

I had this happen to me once. I paid it forward the next day. I went to get my haircut and paid for someone else's too. It was a mother with a girl who was mentally challenged. It was Christmas time and the girl was dressed as an elf. I told the cashier to let them know that I liked their spirit.

Random acts of kindness are always appreciated

1. You could pay the parking meters for people whose meter is running out.
2. Buy an old couple you see at a diner their meal plus tip - and leave before they find out.
3. Buy baby formula/diapers and leave it for a family in need
Or you could buy Ro's girls some clothes.

Treat a homeless man to dinner

I've had personal experiences with beggars asking for money and when I offered food, turned me down flat. A friend, a licensed electrician, likes to tell the story of when he was working on the Ronal McDonald House outside the Cleveland Clinic. He opens his lunch box and sat down on a stoop near the sidewalk. A homeless guy walked up and asked for a few buck so he could buy a ham sandwich. The electrician grabs his sandwich and shows the guy he is eating a baloney sandwich. The homeless guy flips him the bird and walks away.

Congrats on having a child Fish. Now you will know the wonders of being a parent. There is truly nothing in the world like bringing into the world and raising another human being. I recommend saving your pay it forward. Soon enough a moment will arise when you will know...this is it. You will be called to help someone else out of a jam....and you will know it. Have fun with it.

One thing I did after I stopped giving to PSU was helping friends of ours in SEA provide scholarships for students in their country. Like many Penn Staters, they are often the first in their families to go on to higher education--in some cases HS but in one, it was college (you have to pay to go to school--any school--in many countries). I'm following the spirit of Penn State that way.

I'll also note that "paying it forward" is a common topic--indeed even a meme--around Columbus, due to it being Woody's philosophy. He had his issues--but lack of generosity was not one of them.

I was on a work trip onetime and going into a fast food place after a 16 hour day. This crazy lady starts asking me for money to buy something to eat at the restaurant. I told her I'd buy her whatever she wanted. She gave me an order, and when I returned with the food, she was nowhere to be found.

I have given homeless people food that did really appreciate it. Mostly in Europe though.

First, I would post this pic on your FB page and ask people to share the story of Howard the uber driver in Denver. I bet he will see it.
Second, lots of good ideas on here. You'll figure out what's right for you whether it's paying for someone's lunch of donating it to the salvation army which is the most efficient charity in the country.
