OT: Toya Graham (sp) Mother/ Parent

of the year. If you have not seen her yet you will. She recognized her 16yo son in the streets of Baltimore yesterday. He was wearing a black ski mask but she knew it was him. She let in on him pretty good, up aside the head. If you have not seen it yet on the news, you will.
Saw that, and read some interesting commentary on it, pointing out that while the mother looked angry what she really was, was scared. Scared that her kid was going to end up like Freddy Gray, maybe. Whatever she was, she drove him off that rock throwing line like a cowboy rounding up a wayward bull calf for the cutting. The funniest thing was how she kept snatching at his head covering. He wanted it on at first so the cops could not recognize him, then once his moms got into it, he wanted it on so his buddies couldn't recognize him. She did a great job stepping up. :)

She was awesome! Where was the dad? That's the root of the issue in our urban areas. Minimal male role models. He was probably looting the CVS and liquor stores....

Give women like that one a good job you can live on. Then lets see how much it improves.

With six kids and a single mom! No male role models. Mom can't do it alone.

Daniel Patrick Moynahan (D) summarized the situation decades ago. The key problem is the disintegration of the family.

When the Great Society programs unfolded, unwed parenthood skyrocketed. As predicted chronic long-term poverty has been perpetuated among all races in the US, among those who don't follow 3 guidelines...

HOW TO AVOID POVERTY AND ENTER THE AMERICAN MIDDLE CLASS

The conventional wisdom says that if we want to increase opportunities for children, we should give their families more income. Of course money is a factor in upward mobility, but it isn't the only one; it may not even be the most important, says the Brookings Institution.

According to Brookings:

If you want to avoid poverty and join the middle class in the United States, you need to do three things:

  • Complete high school (at a minimum),
  • Work full time and
  • Marry before you have children.

If you do all three, your chances of being poor fall from 12 percent to 2 percent, and your chances of joining the middle class or above rise from 56 to 74 percent.

I like her a lot and admire what she did but again I have to question her judgment. She has six kids from multiple men (none of them around? Why wouldn't you use a condom? This is not rocket science!) Come on! What are we supposed to do with that. There is a reason why these people are in the ghetto and remain in the ghetto. POOR PERSONAL CHOICES!!!! The great thing about America is that you can be anything that you want to be, if you put the work and effort in. You want to be lazy, drop out of school and make BS excuses that the only available thing you can do is sell drugs to make money then they will continue to remain in the ghetto they created for themselves because of their abysmal personal life choices.

I'm sure the 58% unemployment rate in their neighborhood has nothing to do with it.
