Or upcoming 2017's targeted for this spring / summer? I have been looking at several options including the Honda CR-V, Acura RDX, Lexus RX350 (cool looking redesign, but expensive), Ford Edge, Cadillac SRX or soon to be released 2017 XT5, and others. It's for my wife and she doesn't need a third row of seats.

You're all over the spectrum with CR-V vs. Lexus RX350 ( and do not be fooled, it's very ugly )... And then the SRX and Edge...

My buck would be laid on Mazda CX-5, if you don't need something that big there's the Mazda CX-3 and the Honda HR-V... Have not been really jazzed about anything Honda has released in quite some time ( though I like what I see in the new/ forthcoming update of the Ridgeline) ...

FWIW i always recommend FWD & snow/ice-rated tires in the winter ... AWD is merely a way automakers have managed to extract more money from you

I spend alot of time reading Jalopnik... Their Buying Guides are written by jalopniks who know their stuff - here's a starting point for you:

Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit!

Had choice of all under MSRP $54000! $5000 off list!

19 speakers and 825 watts of amplification-50 piece orchestra in the vehicle!

10.6 inches of clearance!

And it's a JEEP!

Could have traded a RX330 bought new, but new tech features on Summit beat all the others!

High resale value!

I just went through a pretty exhaustive search, and settled on the Acura RDX with the advance package. The car listed for $44k, much lower than the Lexus RX which I agree is ugly (looks like a vacuum cleaner). and similarly equipped German models. 2016 was a major redesign. This is their model loaded with every tech feature they offer. Big pluses are the cross traffic warning system, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot warning, and front and rear collision sensors. The car has a touch screen control system which was a big plus for my wife who dislikes the wheel or mouse like systems. There is also an Acura connect appl. where you can do searches for your Nav system on your smartphone and send it to the car, rather then having to go through the address entry process in the car. You can also do remote start, check tire pressure, blink the horn if you lose your car in a parking lot, and other things using your phone. You get about 15g of music storage on the hard drive, and very comfortable and supportive seating with both heated and cooled leather seats. The ride is firm but not harsh. The engine is a 6 cylinder 279 hp for which they recommend premium fuel. At highway speeds, the engine operates on 3 cylinders to obtain good highway mileage. The 10 jewel eye headlights are amazingly bright and kind of cool looking. And one fun feature are the paddle shifters which can be used in place of the normal automatic transmission. Finally, I trust Honda products to be very reliable and this car received the highest safety rating.

I bought a Lexus NX 200T and love it. Had a Jeep Cherokee that I won my Lemon Law case with and after everything decided on the Lexus.

Agree the lad is in ....classic Chris Schenkel terms.... "covering the globe"...,but what are your thoughts emanating from the Jamuary "Auto Shows"?

Subaru Outback loaded for around 36k with safety features like Eye sight. The best.
