I have a lot of respect for everything he has accomplished but what in the hell is he doing? Trying to get fired? I think that may be it. You are trying to try to trade a guy(who has his flaws but is really good still) and all he is doing is tearing him down on Twitter and even through other media. BRILLIANT!

If I was a Knicks fan I would want that guy out now. As an outsider it is sort of interesting to watch the trainwreck.

The Knicks are going nowhere. Melo wants out and getting value in return would be a plus for the team.

Exactly. So why tear down what you are trying to sell? He also has a no trade clause making it even more difficult.

Reminds me of dumbass Dallas Green ripping Scott Rolen to shreads to the media when the entire world knew they may want to trade him.

Everybody knows Philadelphia is a tough place to play, probably to a ridiculous degree.

That does not change the fact that Rolen was a GIANT whiner and crybaby.

I remember talking to his dad who I didn't know was his dad at first coming up from the tunnel behind home plate as a kid and then he said "yeah they are trading him soon" while we are talking. He seemed to want to actually talk and apparently he always stood there. I was wearing a Rolen shirt. He seemed like a cool guy.

Melo has, as mentioned, a no-trade clause and doesn't want to leave NY. His wife and kid like it there. So I think Phil is trying to make it as miserable as possible to get him to want to leave.

Lovely.

You don't think he might trying to just be trying to get himself fired with pay? His actions make about no sense.

Carmelo no matter what you think about him has handled all of the low blows with class.

And Phil was the one who agreed to the no-trade clause. I'm a big fan, but got no sympathy for him here.

People killed the Sixers and they aren't out of the woods yet, but the Knicks show how hard it is to built a contender from the middle. Anthony is 32, and they have Porzingis. Now what?

Now what? Trade Anthony. That's the only possible path forward. How long ago did CA sign the contract, two years? Phil couldn't see this coming? Melo is a nineties-type player, his style just doesn't mesh with the game today. Phil couldn't see this two years ago?

Incidentally, if you want to know about an under-the-radar player who fits into today's game, look at Washington's small forward Otto Porter. He shoots .467 from 3 and .586 from two, an effective .635 shooting percentage, 14.4 ppg, .7 turnovers per game, great defense. Washington should go deep.

Carmelo won't authorize a deal to any team but Cleveland to date. Phil is trying to make it as miserable for him as possible until he opens his list up to more teams. What may happen in the meantime, though, is that Dolan may say enough is enough and just can Phil. Which may be fine with Phil at this point. As a Knicks fan, I hope they trade Carmelo for something of value and fire Phil. This whole arrangement hasn't worked from the start. Get a PG in the upcoming draft and build around him and KP going forward.

Because the Knicks only have one legitimate piece going forward, Porzingis. Everyone else is expendable.

I saw all I ever wanted to see of Otto Porter when he was at Georgetown. Guy is a player. I don't follow the NBA so was not aware of his stats - that is a hell of a shooting percentage.

Phil was the one who begged him to stay and gave him that $124 Million dollar contract at age 30. What did Phil think was going to happen?

He leads the league in 3-point shooting percentage.

You probably know I'm a Hoya fan so it shouldn't come as any surprise that I'm a Porter homer. But the guy plays hard every single minute and I'm thrilled he's in Washington.

I was living in Philadelphia in the '90's when the Phillies were terrible. Rolen was a very good player, ROY I think, but boy did he complain about the fans. He'd strike out and get booed, he'd boot a ball and get booed, and he took it to heart. Then he said stupid things like, "I want to play in St. Louis where the fans are behind their team and there's less pressure". Absolutely the wrong thing to say in Phila.

That really rubbed me the wrong way. Hike up your dress Scott and get out there.

So how'd you like the game last night (heh heh) :D. Give Gtown credit - Cats went into a real lull there and Georgetown came back within 2.

What is your opinion on JTIII? The BE would be a hell of a lot better with Georgetown back as a top contender.

I hope he goes to Cleveland...wait till Lebron sees how he guards nobody!

Harden had the same rep. He changed it up a little and rebuilt his style. D'Antoni doesn't get enough credit. He led Nash to MVP's and now probably Harden. I would like to see him win a title someday but highly doubtful since the Warriors will win next five.

I will defer to you...I don't watch the NBA enough to really have an opinion. But I do watch the Knicks, being a life long fan, and I get sick of watching him play no defense. It must be the coach in me....it's not that he can't...he just doesn't. Maybe Lebron would bring that out in him...

Oh I agree 100%. He has made comments about not caring so much about the defensive end. It's a toxic situation there. Heads will roll

Rolen was a player in the wrong generation. He was much better suited to be a foundation player on a great team like the Yankees or Red Sox rather than being the face of a franchise regardless of the pay involved. My understanding is that he liked Philadelphia but felt management lied to him. One interaction describes the relationship perfectly. The Phillies wanted to offer him a long term deal and Rolen was of the opinion that the Phillies would take the offer to the press and turn it on Rolen being the party that was turning down a very lucrative deal to remain in Philly. Rolen felt that the management was not serious on building a contending team and therefore was not interested in signing a long term deal. But Rolen was very mindful of how this would be presented in the press and how this would play in Philly.

So the Phillies would attempt to present the offer and Rolen would refuse to allow the contract to touch his hands. This is how ridiculous the behavior went. If Rolen was here x years later at the opening of the new stadium he would have likely been in Philly his entire career and been one of the alltimers in Philly. He would have been the perfect player on those teams if the timing was just a bit better. He could have let others get all the spotlight and simply done his job. It would have been perfect.

He was an interesting guy with an interesting personality. He was cautious around people, even with those who had no idea or interest in the fact that he was a top flight player. My friend approached him one night while he was walking his dog in Clearwater. My friend had no idea it was Rolen, he was more interested in engaging with his dog. Rolen wanted nothing to do with conversation. That was just his personality.

Perfect. And Schilling backed him.

Melo? The sooner the knicks get rid of him the better. Melo won't win anything unless he has two players on the team that are better than him. He is far from a superstar.

This is my point sort of.
Why devalue someone that you are trying to trade? Unless you are trying to get yourself canned?

Funny, Michael Jordan, Shaq and Kobe loved Phil, yet Carmelo Anthony doesn't? Melo seems like a punk who thinks he's good, but isn't even close. He's a cancer to that organization, boot him off the team.

Who is the mastermind that gave him a no trade clause? Boot him? He gets nothing for him he basically destructed their franchise as chief of operations. Porzingis pick was a good one.

Phil believes his own press clippings. His shit worked as a coach, but doesn't translate to the front office.

That certainly seems to be the case with Harden. He didn't give a crap about defense before this season. I'm not going to say he's completely turned over a new leaf in regards to defense, but there are plenty of videos on YouTube where his defense is laughably bad.

He is a coach not a GM. Not every player makes a good coach and not every good coach makes a good GM.

His decision to make Carmelo a Max Contract player with a no trade clause is an albatross around the necks of the organization. Now he has to live with his failure.

Right. I'm not sure what he's doing, but melo has been a problem for that team for a long time. It might be that he's trying to create a situation where melo waves his no trade for any team not just a couple of teams.

Yes, exactly. Maybe the reason Jackson is acting like such a horse's ass is that he knows he has no other cards to play. His job is to improve the Knicks. If he has act like a jerk to do this, his job is to be a jerk and see that it happens.
