Warriors fan here. Watch the team a lot and had season tickets when living in the Bay Area long ago. I don't rank them up there those MJ Bulls teams or the Showtime Lakers or any Celtics teams...yet. They need to win another championship or two. In my mind the Celtics with Bill Russell are the number one dynasty. Yes the level of competition wasn't what it is now but what? eleven championships or something like that? That's the standard and it is amazing. After that the Bulls with MJ and the Lakers with Magic and Kareem are tied for #2. Would love to see a series between those two and honestly don't know who would prevail. After that the Celtics with Bird are slightly below that only because the Lakers played at the same time and won more championships.
Having said all that this year's Warriors team is intriguing. At the beginning of the season thought the team would be Curry and not much else but Wiggins and Jordan Poole have stepped up and are legit scoring options. The team is very mentally tough and confident. They never give up no matter how far down they are or who is out of the lineup. There are guys like Otto Porter or Gary Payton II or Damion Lee who are capable of stepping up and having big games. Kuminga is 19 years old the number seven pick and super athletic. He'll do nothing but get better. Add Thompson and James Wiseman who is the #2 overall pick and this team could be scary good.
This ^^^^ is, IMHO, a pretty good assessment. The game the Warriors play, with its focus on player movement, ball movement and three point shooting, is just profoundly different than the game any of the other teams played. So a direct comparison is a little difficult.
I think the Showtime Lakers, with Magic, Kareem, and Worthy, would likely beat Jordan's teams if they went head to head, but we'll never know. They played a couple of decades after Russell's Celtics, and they may have been a bit more physically gifted than those older Celtics, but 11 rings stands for itself.
The only other team I would put up there with the above mentioned teams is the 1983 Sixers team. Moses Malone (Hall of Famer), Dr. J (Hall of Famer), Andrew Toney (who was one hell of a shooting guard), Mo Cheeks (a very good point guard), and Mark Iavaroni were the starting five. Iavaroni is not remembered much, but he was a good role player. Bobby Jones came off the bench, for Chrissake! They went 65-17 and swept Magic and the Lakers in the Finals. Pretty damn good, I'd say.
