Which well-known recording artists (their first celebrity status) became movie stars (or at least acted in non-musical movies)?

The ones I can think of:
Cher - Academy Award winner I believe
Barbra Streisand
Frank Sinatra
Gene Autry?
Bing Crosby
Elvis Presley
Dean Martin
David Bowie
Glen Campbell did a Western with John Wayne but I'm unaware of any other movies.
Dave Matthews

Others?

Mad-donna, Kris Kristopherson, Sting, Willie Nelson, Ice T, Ice cube, but not Vanilla Ice. Dolly Parton. Jerry Reed. Ann Margaret (actually has minor singing hit prior to Viva LasVegas), Sammy Davis

How do you define movie stars...just being in "a" movie, or does it need to be a pretty good movie, or does it need to be multiple movies with one being good to Academy Award quality?

Appeared in multiple movies with more than just a cameo and not taking into account their acting performance.

Frankie Avalon?

Reactions: artsandletters
Bobby Rydell (Bye Bye Birdie opposite Ann-Margret)
Fabian (also in a John Wayne movie)
Al Jolson ( first talkie)
James Darren

Judy Garland, Frankie Avalon, Harry Belafonte, Barbara Streisand, Glenn Campbell

Movie stars with single hit songs: Patrick Swayze, John Travolta, David Soul (TV), off the top of my head and I know there are more.

John Lennon.

Little known fact: In The Wild Life, which includes the aforementioned Lee Ving, Ronnie Wood appears in the party scene where people busted through the wall.

Sam Shepard played drums in the Holy Modal Rounders before his acting career took off. And Chevy Chase played with the guys from Steely Dan in college.

Paris Hilton (ha ha)

Shanon sossyamon was in Warpaint with her sister before her acting career (she wasn’t the songbird we)

Craig Ferguson and Peter capaldi were in the same band before becoming actors (capaldi sang)

angry Anderson of rose tattoo (who are playing shows again!), although he was really only in Beyond Thunderdome.

Dwight Yoakam was terrific in Sling Blade and has been in a number of other movies and tv shows.

Unrelated, I’ve been listening to his “Bakersfield Beat” channel on SXM recently. I’ve never been much of a country fan but I’ve been enjoying discovering some new music via that channel.

*edit — “new” to ME, that is. Most of what’s played there has been around for years if not decades.

David Bowie was in The Hunger (with Catherine Deneuve), Labyrinth (with Jennifer Connelly), and The Last Temptation of Christ (the 1988 version directed by Scorsese), among others.
