OT: who would you choose if you were going select people for taking to an isolated/safe location to wait out a huge crisis?

I’m watching the movie Greenland now and thought the premise of selecting people for moving to safety was interesting. The idea is that your group may be all that is left, and you rebuild civilization and repopulate the earth. You could say your family, the Dallas cowboy cheerleading squad, your favorite posters from this board, or identify the type of people or specific persons who you would pick.

Good list. The only problem is that some listed occupations can only be achieved via education and professional accreditation.

Very admirable professions, but basic skills are far more important in the early days of a truly existential threat

I would like to apologize now for your future dilemmas. About a week ago on the way home from school my daughter said she wanted to take over the world. She mentioned she would probably have to get rid of everyone to do it. I told her world domination seemed like a noble goal. It seemed like she was joking at the time.

And you're going to repopulate the world with which one?

I am definitely going to have farmers and carpenters for sure. And not PhD theory folks but actual farmers. I will say farmers but will include both vegetable, dairy, etc.
We also need some guys who are good at chopping trees...real labor men in these areas.
I want a handful of engineers/scientists in different areas...chemist, mechanical engineer, civil, electrical, etc.
I will definitely want some folks with background in law enforcement and military to keep order and civility.
I will want pastors of different faiths....we are gonna need that in this new world.
We could almost take specialists in all the different MOS's of the army for the entire operation. They have specialists in almost every area including medical, dental, etc.
It is a lot to think about.
I saw the movie Greenland. It was entertaining for sure.

True but once everybody dies off think of all the free infrastructure lying around.

I might be alone in my thinking but I don’t think I’d want to survive a doomsday event even if I was one of the “chosen” few tasked with restarting humanity. What kind of hellish existence would that be?

Isn't that the Professor from Gilligan's Island.

When you're Queen of the World, 2 + 2 can equal whatever the F you want it to. ;)

A Great book that I read in junior high school and recently reread is Alas Babylon. Published in 1959 by Pat Frank it tells a tale of the aftermath of survival after full blown nuclear war between the USSR and the United States. There is also an article online that details the life lived by Pat Frank. Hugh Hefner had nothing on him.

I've always admired my eighth grade teacher's insight for having young people read such a book.
