OT: Whose your favorite college FB player that wan't a Penn Stater. Me? Tebow definitley..........

I really liked Marvin Jones when he was at Florida State. Though he would be a sure fire hall of famer in the NFL.

Bill Carpenter of Army in the late 50's. The "Lonesome End". Probably the only member of the College Football Hall of Fame with a Distinguished Service Cross (2nd highest award behind Medal of Honor) for valor in Vietnam.

Is this photo from an Army - Penn State game?
I realize that many uniforms from the 50s and 60s look similar when looking at a black and white photo.

Actually, one of three.. Maj. Don Holleder was awarded the DSC posthumously and General Robin Olds held the Air Force Cross, which is equivalent.

Tim Tebow. Major Harris. Derrick Henry. Marcus Mariota. I really liked all those guys in college.

Major Harris was outstanding. Was at the game in Morgantown when the Mounties beat the holy hell out of Dear Old State (Joe pulled the team off the field prior to the end of the game...something to do with the crowd throwing things at the bench). I still think if he didn't get hurt early in the Fiesta Bowl, they would've beaten Lou Holtz's Domers for the MNC.

Nevada had this running back named Lynch or something similar, Brenaman from UMass, and Geno Lewis from OU.

:)

Joe Bellino, Navy RB.

I remember Carpenter, of course. Those were the days when the Army-Navy game was the one the nation most looked forward to. People with zero interest in football talked about the game. And ice cream sandwiches were a dime.

Marcus Dupree, Bo Jackson, Earl Campbell, Hershey Walker were big time running backs in college.

I can't say he was my favorite, but I always thought Tyrone Wheatley was awesome. Best non-PSUer I ever saw in person. The game he had vs PSU in 1994 was unreal. Almost won it singlehandedly with 3 or 4 spectacular runs.

Tebow was such "a grandstander" and self-promoter under the guise of team-leading. Nauseating. BTW- my fave was Jim Thorpe
I actually sort of came to like Tebow, primarily as a reaction to the over the top and unfounded total hatred of the guy - from the media and the public. Wasn't a big fan of his during AFC championship game a few years ago...

Jim Thorpe? Just how old are you?

Flutie - BC
Dupree- OU
Campbell - Texas
Walker - UGA
Suh-Nebraska
Randle El - Indiana (and should have won the Heisman that year).

Thread asked for fave player not from Penn St. Mine's Jim Thorpe from Carlisle (PA). Read the book "Carlisle vs Army" - super read! Amazing players in a fantastic era.

Doug Flutie gets my vote.
Suh and Hugh Green were the two best defensive players I have ever seen.

Doug Flute -pound for pound the best player I ever watched play the game.
