i don't know of any other sport where the coaches do this. In fact it would look pretty silly in most cases.
Picturing LaSorda standing there with nothing but a towel/gym shorts, etc. ;-)Nobody wants to see their bat and their balls?

Yes, otherwise you have to see this...and I bet ole Sean's sweating up a storm right about now.Why do basketball coaches wear $3,000 suits?
Do you really need an expensive suit to coach basketball?

Start looking on Craigslist (Louisville,KY) for a good deal on some slightly used $3,000 Italian suits - probably for a significant discount. Why do basketball coaches wear $3,000 suits?

Combination of that and the fact that old timey dugouts use to be dirty and muddy so managers started wearing uniforms to save their street clothes.I believe it is a throw back to a time when it was common for the manager to also be an on the field player. I’m sure that there are baseball enthusiasts around here that can answer the question more definitively.
They wear them because they can afford it. And of course they don't need an expensive suit to coach basketball. What does anyone need a $3000 suit for except to try to impress people with their wealth? Why do basketball coaches wear $3,000 suits?

Of course I remember when as students in the 60s, we wore suits and ties to the games. Then later we'd change into jeans by Saturday night or whatever attire was appropriate for body surfing in beer.Found this ....

They look ridiculous. Old, fat men wearing vertical stripes. Good look, morons.
Yes, and thank God they aren't horizontal, at least. I always thought MLB manages look like they're dressed up for Halloween when they come running out of the dugout. Goofy looking.Horizontal strips makes one look fatter
