Other than Mark Emmert, who else shall we blame for USC's handling of Steve Sarkisian?

Dodging the US Congress? Last time he testified, it didn't go so well.

Yep. He's so used to walking in a room and having NCAA employees and college administrators genuflect to him that he was totally unprepared. Probably the first time in a long time where he wasn't the 'big dog' in the room. ;)

None other than Louis Freeh. Thanks for the reminder, @JmmyW.

Announcement from USC in 2011:

Just too funny. I had no idea Freeh was involved with USC. That said, it does show an interesting insight into college administrators and those who claim to be the defenders of free independent thought. It's funny how quickly they conform with "group think" and how insular they are which allows Freeh to be called on repeatedly by different universities despite his record.

Another person who appears to be getting a free pass on this is Pat Haden. I saw their press conference where he was questioned on whether or not he vetted Sarkisian after there were multiple reports from students, bar owners, and people at the University of Washington over Sark's drinking problem. Haden said they did investigate him but people just may not like the vetting ( and they didn't do a public records search). Complete arrogance. I'm surprised he still has a job frankly

From what many are saying now they don't see how Haden survives this, and this is coming from people who have backed him and know him. This just reflects awful on him and his choices and the university

Haden has been an absolute disaster at Southern Cal.....I'll be STUNNED if he's not gone well before National Letter Of Intent Day (which is sneaking up only 3 1/2 months away).

I know he got the dreaded 'vote of confidence' from USC president Nikias (sp?) the other day and it sounds like a lot of SC fans aren't happy. I guess we will see soon enough. (I'm surprised he lasted after being texted by Sark in a game last year to come down to the field from the boxes and argue a call with the ref- and he actually did it). ;)

LOL indeed when the president says your good means get your boxes ready.... Seems like the boosters and backers of the program really want Haden out. USC has to go outside the Pete Carroll coaching tree and get somebody outside with preferably a strong name and reputation of winning. Just not sure who that is at this point...

How much did Freeh collect from the Trojans? This asshole goes all over the place with his hand out, trying to grab dough wherever he can.

So when did Freeh become an expert on the governance of large universities?.

Most likely during the eight years he headed the FBI. That would include the 56 field offices, approximately 360 smaller offices known as resident agencies, several specialized field installations, and more than 60 liaison offices in other countries. Governance is governance and best practice principles applies and are transferable to every organization.

If you think that Freeh demonstrated good governance during his tenure as FBI director you are more delusional than I thought.

not being political, but I had a conversation with my boss today about the FBI. He said they are "political and corrupt" so I asked him to put that in a historical context:

currently more or less corrupt than it was under Louis Freeh, or J Edgar Hoover? :D

It doesn't matter what I think, only what Bill and Dubya thought. Considering he held the job for 8 years through both democrat and republican administrations, I think it's fair to conclude he was an overall good manager.

I believe you've just set a world record in the category of non sequitur.
