This isn’t quite right. You can play a sport at school A as a ninth grader, and there’s no sit out penalty at school b for your sophomore year. Essentially there’s a free transfer after your freshman year
Not to be “that guy”, but I think a more accurate distinction is that there’s a free transfer before your sophomore year. But, even in those situations, I think a lot of Districts will still investigate the circumstances.

Thanks for the post. When I officiated, what I hated was NOT having an assistant to help. I'm disappointed, though not surprised, to hear guys are ignoring their assistants. Probably older guys who think they know everything.
The worst part for me were wildly inconsistent (and largely too conservative) stalling calls from neutral, and a few guys who were always out of position and would not count backs until they got into position. Missed 2 or 3 counts on more than a half dozen occasions.

The $26 bucket of fries and inability to leave and come back from 8:AM until 10PM were just close ahead of the empty middle sections for everything but the finals.

It's "free" unless there is evidence of tampering and someone files a complaint. I don't think any District investigates absent a complaint from another school.

If the transfer is deemed for athletic intent then you lose your entire season, even if you are transferring before your sophomore season
