This morning I'm heading back into the Boulder City planning department to again try to have them just accept my paperwork for the permit to renovate (adding a second level) my house.
Between the cost of all the supporting documentation that you see here (below), and the cost of the permit itself, I'll have about $10k-$12k spent before I can even pick up a hammer (and I'm doing my own architecture and architectural drawings, so I don't even have that cost).
I fully support the permit process in general, and inspections to make sure work is done to code. But Boulder takes it way past what is reasonable. Your inspectors are going to verify that the roof ventilation is to code (which is all you require), so why should I have to take the time to document the roof vents? Jesus.
