Parking at the Nittany Lion Deck is a Cluster

How many of you who have routinely used the Nittany Lion deck for parking for Rec Hall events think the parking situation (exiting) is a complete cluster? On Friday's, if you enter before 5:00, you need to pay for all hours up to exit. That is ridiculous. Also the exiting process is unbelievable. Even Sunday you will need to put your ticket in to exit even though the cost is zero. The exit gates should just be open to allow for an easier exit for everyone.
They either need to fix this or I need to look for alternate parking.

Parked there for the first time this season on Friday. I was running late (solo this time), and didn't want to miss any action. Had to park near the roof. I booked out of rec as soon as AC dropped the Deuce (edit-#fakenews, it was the squat giant Beard), but wound up waiting 45 minutes before I could even get off of my section of the 5th level.

On the other hand, it was quiet time for me to catch up on wrestling podcasts which, as a father of a couple young'uns cannot be overvalued.

I did have to laugh at the 2 vehicles near me that thought they'd found a shortcut cutting through the sections, and wound up being a whole section behind me. Not a fun situation, but patience is a skill everyone should practice more, IMO.

I do agree that raising the gates after big events would help a good bit. It can't be necessary for statistics with the ground loops in the ramps--so it must be about revenue for the cars that were there before 5.

I stopped parking in the garage 4 years ago, getting out is a joke. I would rather walk to white coarse.

Parking has always been an issue at PSU. I would love to take my 89 year father to a match a rec--but you would have to be there 4 to 5 hours early to have any chance at the space in the small handicap lot right beside rec.

Parking is really my only bitch about Rec Hall

They used to leave the gates open as recently was two years ago. I don't understand why the change in policy. The vast majority of people don't owe anything on Fridays and nobody pays on Sunday. I tried parking in an empty lot down the street from the parking deck and got a warning ticket because it is a reserved lot 24/7. I can't believe they missed an opportunity to ding me.

Exiting would certainly go better if they allowed you to back into a space. I had this debate a few years ago with the parking people and they fail to see that 500 cars backing out of spaces at the same time kind screws things up.

We used uber a few times this year--park at a local bar--prematch for an hour or so, then uber takes us to the front door--- repeat and rinse.

You mean you tried to convince them to let you back in so you could then drive down the ramp the wrong way after the match? They probably had a good laugh about you afterwards.

You can park down the hill a bit with handicap tags as well. Near the frats. I did it with my brother a couple of years ago. If he can walk that far.

After 4:00 PM (weekday) / weekend parking passes are “kinda” inexpensive if you discount the time required to get one at the parking office. Parking passes allow you to park at numerous faculty/staff lots near Rec Hall or for free in parking decks. $30 or so for full wrestling season.

45 minutes from the top floor for me, too. I let mrspawrestlers talk me into parking in there, rather than across Atherton. Good thing I kind of like her.

If you actually turn the steering wheel as you pull out it's not difficult. Certainly easier than backing out with cars trying to get by.

Being a newer member, I think I learned a lot about you from your post. Especially your restroom independence.

A) Even with an 89 year old father, you must be under 30 years old
B) If you are Male, you have a very healthy prostate
C) If you are over 50, you got your hands on those Extra Absorbent Depends. (Harder to obtain than Pgh NCAA tickets)
D) You like to practice your dancing while on line.
E) You don't drink fluids 24 hours before the match. (Like in your wrestling days).

The bathroom situation at Rec is horrible for the mens room. I have already missed watching the Sunday 125 pound match while still in the bathroom line from the previous Friday home match!

Don't even get me started on them shutting down the concession stand by Section N1 in 2013 and Never reopening it since. I'll stop here before my season tickets are revoked.

Rec is a classic building and an outstanding venue for watch great wrestling, beyond that....Not so much. When it was built, men lived to the age of 35 and the there was no way the architects in 1928 could have predicted Cael's run and the demand he has brought on this site.

Thanks for posting Pancake1, apparently like you I like the Waffle Shop!

Thanks for reminding me of the time I tried to pay and nearly got ticketed!

I forgot one! Yes I was able to get NCAA tickets this year:D

Pancake I think it's great you can take your dad at 89 to the matches. I took my dad once a year until he hit 83, then his health declined. One of the matches he met Cael near the locker room as it was close to the best exit for us. Cael was impressed that a guy his age would travel 3 hours each way to attend at match at age 83. Later years he wanted to attend but I worried too much about the weather and his health if I had road issues.

As someone mentioned before, catch an uber from a restaurant, hotel, anywhere. Drop you off right out front. It's worth the 10-12 bucks.

Take an uber and thank me later.
