penn state/penndot has put signs up all around to try and direct people to the lots. If you’re in W (coming on atherton) and you’re driving in on 322 from the bellefonte direction, they have you driving all the way down to Lowe’s/Home Depot, getting off at that exit and turning left onto atherton. That is going to be a cluster. Better to get off at wal mart and cut through to atherton that way. Are the other ones as convoluted?

They are just trying to increase business for the front end alignment shops, and tire dealers by taking people down the goat path called Atherton Street.

The new parking system itself was actually pretty well thought out and COULD work very well.

The trouble is (as always) in the execution. The average bear fan will not look at the directions clearly printed on his parking pass, will not give a thought to any signs, and will try to park wherever he wants.

Then somebody, after being turned away, will try to argue with the parking attendant (who are an art form all to themselves) that they are somehow special and the rules don't apply to them. Eventually they will then go against the flow of traffic, clogging everything up, and traffic will be backed up to Clearfield.

Arrive early, stay patient, and remember this too shall pass.

I have heard, the Parking as well as the attendants have been outsourced. They will not be warm bodies without training found by some supervisor tasked with manning the parking lots hired by someone at PSU that doesn't really care. They may actually have some formal training and actually know what to do since the outsourcing service will do the hiring and managing.

Not that it will be any better but one could hope.

We will arrive to our lot well before the new traffic pattern goes into effect. Exiting will be another story.
YES... I am not worried about arrival, Im more worried about new departure routes.

Yep. A couple dipshits thinking they are above the new rules will help clog shit up.

Why would they direct people to get off as you propose? That light by Panera sucks coming from the route you mentioned.

Either way you're going to hit the light by Panera. Either coming down atherton or turning left at it coming down the hill passed texas roadhouse.

That route could not sustain any significant amount of traffic. Waddle Road narrows to one lane once you pass Colonnade Blvd. Plus there are seven traffic lights on that short stretch. If you really want to see a cluster, send a bunch of traffic that way.

Yea cause the outsourcing of the pat downs around the stadium has gone so well. (Insert eye-roll).

These people will be just what you described - warm bodies that whatever agency could pull off the street and schlep them to the middle of Pennsylvania for a day for likely less than minimum wage. They won’t have knowledge of the area, they’re not going to have any great training, nor will they be likely able to help people with questions. Not saying the current parking folks are any better but to think that outsourcing is some sort of magical solution is pretty naive imo.

Even if they are trained a little bit, the new parking attendants will be better than the old ones in the grass lots because they got absolutely no training from the person in athletics that was in charge of parking. Know someone that used to do it and they said they were pretty much thrown out there cold with very little info. I consider this new change likely a positive step. It can go from a D- to maybe with some time a C+ or B-.

They can't be any worse then when we had the locals.

I used to come up the back way, East College Ave to Houserville Road to Orchard Road then up the steep hill to Lot 24/25. Up at the top of the hill every week was this parking goof with a big 'M' decal on the rear window of his truck and he would always wear a Michigan hat and a Michigan jersey.

Reminiscent of Rene Portland's family sitting behind the Indiana bench and her slapdick son wearing an IU jersey at a PSU basketball game. Featherweight Tim Curley should have had her ass for that. What could people possibly be thinking that stuff like that would seem like a good idea?

Boy did that piss me off. It's a free country - you can root for anybody you like. But don't you DARE take a paycheck from Penn State and stick your finger in the eye of thousands of PSU fans while you are on the clock. He should have been told - ONE TIME - to either lose the Michigan stuff or GTFO.

But this is how Gameday Operations is run. The Stadium runs out of bottled water on opening day when it's 103 degrees. We can't open enough gates. There is no overall supervision which allows little two-bit Napoleons to run wild.

Little by little they make the whole experience just a little less enjoyable all the time.

They won’t be anything close to trained. Not even a little bit.

They are still trying to HIRE folks for the positions (two weeks to game time), and they will be (mostly) bottom of the barrel folks w not only 0 skills or aptitude’s, but also w 0 interest in the job - - just like the other GameDay position hires.
What’s that saying “doing the same thing and expecting different results.....”?

And when “led” by a group who is so utterly disengaged and lazy themselves, whattayagonnaexpect?

It is what it is.

The new vendor management will be much better than ICA folks trying to “lead” it. You are correct, they still are trying to find people, probably because they got bad info from ICA yahoos.

Yes I’m not advocating for it to be signed that way, just telling the insiders (aka people smart enough to be on this board) that they can cut the route in half going this way. It’s going to be painful enough driving 2 miles past the stadium in the first place. Also you can turn right into the collonade and avoid the funneling into one lane. God forbid it turn into a “use both lanes until merge point” situation.

They’ve been outsourcing the other stuff....... usher, gates, etc for several years.

How has that worked?

[spoiler: every week you never know who is going to show up to work, those who do haven’t got the slightest idea what they are even supposed to do - let alone HOW to do it, and most of them couldn’t give a rats ass.
That is NOT an overly negative review of the situation - not by any means]

That company is a joke. New company is not based on what I have read about them. Will take some time for sure.
