Penn State Altoona

Im assuming theyll go D2. Lots of local talent to pick from for sure. I'd imagine with a good coach, they'll get a good number of kids from Districts 5, 6, 7, 9 at a minimum. Strike up a rivalry with Pitt Johnstown.

From the article:

Penn State Altoona announced it will be adding both a men’s and women’s wrestling program beginning in 2024.

The two teams will join the Division III wrestling scene by competing in the AMCC. The campus previously had a wrestling program from the 1971-72 season until the 1980s.

To win D2s and D3s it take a level of commitment from the school that I just can't see a PSU branch campus making. And I must say, backup HS wrestlers won't win titles as individuals or as a team.
I agree with you, but hypothetical that would be fun. Maybe Cael could let the branch campuses use his back ups! Just kidding

This program will be well stocked, its a great opportunity for kids to continue their wrestling careers. M2, YG, Compound, 4M will be pipelining the roster, they will be competitive from the start.

A friend’s daughter attended the “Al Tuna” campus. I referred to it as the “Ed Mackerel” campus and she didn’t see the least bit of humor in that :(

As a former DIII wrestler who still follows my alma mater, it's no joke. As far back as the mid-70s, there were PA state champs that didn't win DIII, PA state champs that made it to the top of the podium once, and guys that were high placers in PIAA that also made it to the top like one time.

Backups from even the best schools aren't doing that.
