1) All in all, this team excceded my expectations. Coming into the season I thought if we could grab 15 wins II would consider it a success, which we got 16 and finished .500, which in itself is a success for this young and rebuilding team. The quality of those wins met my expectations, beating IU, Iowa, and NW in the Big 10 really was great to see. Having Maryland and even last night Ohio State was good!
2) Chambers is building something here, its obvious. That guy coaches his mind out of the game. One of the most intesne coaches I have watched coach, it is great. I think a culture and program where established this year, which allows the 2016 class to come right in and work.
3) I love the toughness that team developed physically over this year. We play D and really hard D. Nothing comes easy and that's they way it should be.
4) Thank you seniors for their hard work. Brandon Taylor will be missed next year.
Next year thoughts.
1) As a team we need to develop an offensive idenity. I think this team is destined to play pace and space and even some small ball in the near future. They absolutely need to find a way to get into transition and get easy buckets. At the end of the day, they are a pretty good half court team, which games that matter are decided in the Half court, when we execute.
2) I want to see us become a little better of a rebounding team, which will happen when Watkins and Stevens come in, good rebounders.
3) I want to see us become a more crisper and decisive team with the ball, that includes passing. We need to move the ball on the perimiter faster, pass up a good shot for a better shot. Once Stevens and Watkins develop an inside game we need better post passing. If I have one critue of Shep last night is that his post passes are very lazy. Notice these things are effort, not scheme. It is very correctable aspects of the game, so I am not worried.
4) I have seen the players coming in as well as the players coming back, I am prepared to say that it is not out of the relam of possibility that we win 20games next year in my mind. With the 2016 class coming in, the development of Shep, Watkins having a year of development. I think it is very possible! We had 16 this year and our core, besides Taylor is back. 8-9 solid basketball players on the roster.
Few player thoughts:
Shep: I give a lot of credit to Shep. He proved a lot of people wrong. His play was VERY good this year. The development of him playing PG is something to watch next year. What I want to see him improve on next year is finding ways to get more in the lane and create for others and also more physical defense.
Reeves: I give Dan Dakich kudos, he pointed out half of Reeves weaknesses, which we all know is shooting. I would like to see him improve that, but not only stand still, but off the bounce. Kid is an explosive athelte, he can improve that. I want to see him develop a move overall and fingerprints game. He should be a stat sheet stuffer and effect the game on both ends. I think we see a much better Reeves next year in a lot of areas.
Washington: He needs more of an overall game. Can he be a solid bench option next year? He needs to be able to give us am offensive punch next year more consistentely.
All in all, it was a good season of development and improvment. Lot to look forward to next year. The team is going to look vastly different.
Next up:
Recruting season, lots of names will surface. I expect Chambers will be at alot of UA and EYBL tournaments this summer and spring. I will be sure to provide any names or updates that I see or come my way.
Thank you to all who made the season fun with posts and perspectives. I look forward to more basketball related talk on BWI.
Nate thanks for all you do, I hope you get a vacation soon, haha!
