Scotty Stossel, 125lb. true freshman, had an impressive 6-1 weekend with 4 falls, a major and a decision to take 3rd at the NCWA National Championships this last weekend. His only loss was 6-4 in sudden victory in the quarters, and that was avenged with an 8-2 win over the same guy in the 3rd place match. Scotty, a WPIAL native, has come a long way since nearly missing AAA States last year at 120lbs - be sure to keep an eye out for him these next few years!

Also congratulations to Johnny Novak 165lbs, Chris Williams 174lbs, Paul Schoenberg 184lbs, Doug Thier 197lbs and Jeremy Benton 235lbs (bumping up from 184 for the team!!) for qualifying for nationals and winning matches!

We had a very successful weekend with our team of 5 that actually made it out to Allen, TX placing 24th overall out of 85 teams, and 9th out of all 57 NCWA Div. II Teams. This includes a runner-up finish in the tough Middle East Conference. Beyond that, we went an undefeated 7-0 in dual meet competition, and placed 1st at our only tournament of the year, the Doug Cherry Invitational.

This season was a great stepping stone towards establishing University Park as the home to the best wrestling in the nation at ANY level!

A crucial part in our success was the generous contribution from several members of the Penn State Wrestling community. I want to thank those of you who responded to the post I made earlier in the year asking for help with the financial responsibility of running a team, as Club Sports are very expensive to manage here at Penn State with relatively little funding coming from PSU. Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated. Further - a big high-five to all 2,391 of our fans on Facebook! It's awesome being in the heart of wrestling, right in the middle of PA.

Good luck to the Varsity team this weekend at St. Louis! WE ARE!
