Basketball Penn State Finishes With a Winning Record After Upset Victory

If Rhoades said that this was PSU's last game the team may have already voted to decline any invitations from the other lower level post season tournaments.

In the last minute there was a great play with Dilione passing to Yanic for a drunk. These are two guys we need to return next year so I hope that finishing that play and this game are meaningful. Both players were smiling.
Those two and the Mingo kid coming should should be a solid group, if the three freshmen and Ezeh stay, they are nice depth pieces. Need a guy to replace Dunn and a better defense version of HIcks at minimum.

They aren’t getting any invites so nothing to turn down. Tourneys are beating the door down for teams that finish 17th out of 18th in their league

Dunn was maybe the player of the game today. Unfortunately for us he seemed to be peaking towards the end of his PSU career.

Maybe he plays in D League or overseas- he is the sorta guy we couldn't touch coming out of high school. Still likely has an upside to grow into a better player.

Wish him well.

The frustrating thing about this team is that the talent is there. For most of my 45 years of following PSU hoops we have always lacked the horses.

The combination of develping players like Konan and Nzeh along with transfers from higher end programs like Dunn, Puff and Freddie, along with our 2 VCU stalwarts was a nice mix.

Injuries hurt. Cohesion was lacking. We could've won a few more games- but it wasn't meant to be.

Maybe next year....

There was a stretch in late jan into feb where it looked like the team gave up on coach. There was definitely more energy to start and finish the season. This was a strange year, even by our standards!

Ace's injury was the straw that broke the camel's back. Together with Puff out the team didn't have the horses to win against the teams they were playing, and then when Ace came back he wasn't playing at a high enough level to turn in the assist to turnover ratios that are his normal level of play. Konan was out for a couple games as well and without him the team didn't match up well with any B10 team with a front line. But the way Konan played the last few games and with an off season in the weight room he has the potential to be the best big man I have ever seen at PSU. Rhoades will have to work some magic in the portal but he's shown he's up to the task so there is reason for optimism for 2025 as long as the incoming high 4 star point guard comes in ready to play and Rhoades can keep the best returning players at PSU.

That's a big ask from Mingo.

Yep. Maybe Rhoades will bring in a PG with a year to play as out of the rest of the roster it doesn't look like there's really another true PG on it now. And Kerns wasn't really a great fill in, and neither were the inexperienced freshmen Carter or Stewart. Actually. I didn't see enough of Carter to know where his true position going forward is going to be. Any idea if he'll be a PG? In their recruiting profiles Carter was listed as a SG and Stewart a Combo Guard.

Even if Mingo is given the opportunity to play big minutes next season the team really needs a decent backup PG so getting a transfer seems like it could be the plan unless Rhoades believes one of the 2024 class guards can do it.

This team could use a DJ Newbill type of transfer.

Why does everyone give Kraft a pass on that monstrosity of a mauseluem we call a home court. That ridiculous cavern has been a blight to the entire athletic department from the moment that clown of an empty suit opened it in 1995.

Burn that thing to the ground and build a real home court.

Agree. What a shame on the University though to allow that to happen. Tim Curley might be the second worst athletic director in history.

Second worst 😂. We all know who is number one.

It was a decent home court advantage when it opened on the ‘90s, as it was new and there were a few decent seasons in the first several seasons. I agree it is totally embarrassing to see it empty now. Regardless of setting, attendance is based on success. We have had only 6 or 7 seasons that were above dumpster fire criteria since the BJC opened.

It goes beyond that. It was built for home Depot shows, not sports. It has horrible sight lines. The seats are miles away from the actual game. Etc ..

I completely agree that the capacity and location (it should in the middle of campus) are not ideal, but all those seats would be filled if the program was not the cluster F that it is.
