Football Penn State Football: A quick glance at Penn State's true freshmen so far

Interesting that Rapplyea got to play and Schlaffer did not after Schlaffer enrolled in January and Rapplyea got to PSU in the summer. Rapplyea was reportedly further along as a recruit with a more ready B10 stature and that along with his skill set must have allowed him to make up for Schlaffer's head start at PSU.

Can't read too much into all the freshmen that played vs Delaware for their first game as they all might still redshirt. But Lyons getting on the field for his second game seems to indicate he is close to being green lighted even though Franklin would not commit to that in his PC today.

Here's a question though not Freshman related. How about TE Jerry Cross, has he been passed by Rapplyea on the depth chart? I don't recall seeing his name on the "questionable" or "not playing" lists.

I've not seen it mentioned, but a good observation.

According to the Delaware snap counts as reported on another site Cross got 5 plays at TE vs Delaware. As Cross already redshirted he will likely get snaps in many games. Rapplyea on the other hand is likely headed for a redshirt, so the staff possibly took the Delaware game as one of his 4 (+ bowl game) allowed and got more of a look at him as he reportedly got 10 snaps........ So what I'm trying to say is that although Rapplyea got more snaps in the Delaware game it does not necessarily mean that he has passed Cross on the depth chart.
