Some quick notes from Zach. Nothing too special at practice today.
All quarterbacks were present. Veteran starter Drew Allar showed consistent zip on his passes. Redshirt freshman Jaxon Smolik continues his return from injury. Smolik’s mobility is getting better each week.
RUNNING BACKS
Star junior running back Nicholas Singleton and injured redshirt freshman Cam Wallace were absent from the viewing session. Head coach James Franklin confirmed that Wallace will be out long-term. It is unknown why Singleton was missing.
Junior Kaytron Allen and true freshmen Quinton Martin and Corey Smith were present. The Nittany Lions would most likely lean on Allen, with some help from Martin, in the event that Singleton does not play against UCLA.
OFFENSIVE LINE
The good news is that it appears Sal Wormley is going to be good to go after leaving Saturday's game early with an injury but we did not see JB Nelson.
WIDE RECEIVERS
All wide receivers were in attendance. Notably, Liam Clifford and Trey Wallace hauled in some quality receptions. True freshman Tyseer Denmark was not on the scout team and could see extended playing time versus the Bruins. I did not see Kaden Saunders who James Franklin has commented on multiple times as he deals with a lingering injury issue.
DEFENSIVE ENDS
True freshman Max Granville flashed his improved pass rushing moves and hand usage when working on the practice bags. Granville was also not on the scout team and may see additional playing time against UCLA depending on the score deficit.
LINEBACKERS
Captain Dom DeLuca was spotted at practice. He suffered an injury vs. Kent State, but Franklin said that he would return soon. DeLuca was wearing a brace on his wrist.
DEFENSIVE BACKS
Transfer cornerback Jalen Kimber was seen at practice. He was also dealing with a “short-term” injury, per Franklin. True freshman Dejuan Lane netted positive remarks from Franklin during a defensive pursuit drill.
