Football Penn State Football Practice Notebook - Tuesday Spring Edition

Via @Colin_Crissey

“- The defensive backs look like they are way ahead of the wide receivers right now. When watching practice, it was almost as if they were running the routes for them.”
This is what we all feared! Goodness, I do not believe all our wrs suck! The wr coach should have been canned.

I listened to Coach Knowles presser and was impressed with his demeanor and responses: not over-the-top, measured, yet insightful, wasn't blowing smoke Seems pleased with DBs, indicated Speca (LBer)was grasping concepts well and doing well on the field and that Wiey "was flahing" at times onn film this Spring. Didn't seem concerned about DL when asked. Said DE Max Granville is impressive as a young player, likes his motor and physical play. When asked, he believes they are between 50-60% of defensive scheme installed. He likes his defensie assistants, their backgrounds, experience, and ability to relate to the players. Said him and AK get along well and likes that his defense has to work against varying formations. I like his approach but it will take time for the players to grasp the scheme and play loose. I guess patience is the watchwod for this defense.

Where is Grunk? Heard he wasn't at practice.

LB attrition likely coming. If you read between the lines, sounds like Tamere might be interested in moving on.

People have been asking about Birch for years. Says he's working 2nd team LG behind Vega (wondering if that's a typo and it's RG?).

Going into his 3rd year it seems that we were going to hear something positive about Birchmeier or we might have heard he was moving on. Great to hear that he is making strides towards playing time and potentially towards earning a starting spot in the next few years.
