He’s going to be a player next year.
Yesterday I scribbled down our prospective depth chart for next year not including incoming freshmen.
Kebba as starter and Lilley as back up in the post may be ok...assuming that each matures. Dorsey is a question mark or could play a role like Myles. Portal help here is obvious...especially if Dorsey leaves.
While Seth was tanking late in the year, many on the Board speculated he was gone. I think that Shrew has a chance at keeping him with a prescribed plan to address his draft weaknesses. With the late success he and the team are having I'd put his return at 75% (just my gut). He is critical as a proven scorer and defender. He also would be our leader.
Assuming a similar 3 guard rotation, I like Clary and Mahaffey as the point and stretch. There will be growing pains, but they each bring skills that we haven't had much of before. Kanye is fast and can be a scorer in the paint. Mahaffey can dribble and sky.
The big question is at 2...Johnson has shown flashes offensively but is inconsistent and a defensive liability. Like Dorsey, his future is tbd, but if he stays he may contribute...but doesn't feel like a Big Ten starter. Brown could/should emerge here too, but will have to prove his recruiting rating. The freshmen have an opening here.
With Seth, we could maybe flirt with .500 like we did this year. Without, it will be a lot of learning.Low scoring ugly wins like last night will be our recipe.
This run only raises Shrew's market value. If he leaves for ND or Gtown, which I think is more likely than not, then everything goes out the window. Lundy will not stay for another new coach. Our recruits may follow Shrew as may the freshmen who committed to him. Hopefully that doesn't come to pass.
Let's enjoy the ride now and hope that our AD invests in hoops. Shrew coukd be a Bo Ryan or Dick Bennett type who can win without 4 and 5 stars. He and his Philly based staff can continue to grow us there and plug in Midwestern guys from his roits.
