last week's AT&T at Pebble Beach was fantastic. The Irish players took advantage of the awful weather on Friday and Saturday to take control of the event. Rory played the best golf of his career. Pebble is, to me, the most beautiful place in the USA and the only rival I've seen is Southern Italy. But those immaculate golf courses on that rocky shore on a nice day is as nice a view as I've ever seen in my lifetime.

So the blue blooders contrast that with this week's Waste Management Open. The WM Open is golf surrounded by stands that look like a NASCAR race. The fans get drunk and completely unruly which is the WM's charm. Given that, it will wear off fast if it gets too out of hand. But it is fun and worth the watch. It is also great to see a beautiful golf course in the desert while we fumble with ice and snow back east. Good things are on their way!

There was a lot of talk that things really got out of hand last year. IIRC, the tournament established some new policies in response to the incidents that many felt crossed the line. It will be interesting to see if they can preserve some of the rowdiness that made the WM unique while eliminating the stuff that made it something both players and many fans didn't enjoy.

I was there last year, and they had rain on Thursday and Friday that didn't allow them to finish round 2 on Friday. As a result, they finished round 2 on Saturday morning. Then there was a break of about 90 minutes while they set up the course and the pin placements for round 3. In addition, the rain didn't let people spread out around the course as they normally would. Both of these factors were the catalyst for things to get out of hand.

We have gone to the WM a few times, but we won't go back on a Saturday in the future. This year, we decided to skip the tournament altogether to see how the changes work out.

In my mind golf should not be discussed on a college football message board.

Speaking of golf anyone been watching the TGL indoor golf? Pretty amazing g facility
I found it to be "interesting" and a great concept. It is a little too frat boy to me. However, the worst sports time of the year is right now. Football has wound down. The way too long seasons for Hockey and the NBA are in the middle and boring. Baseball hasn't started. College basketball is a bunch of kids nobody has heard of because as soon as the get a rep, leave for the NBA.

So the door is wide open to capture sports post NFL regular season.

That's interesting. My two children who are dual Italian citizens, visited Italy for the first time last summer and had a low opinion of Southern italy. I am pretty sure they went to the Amalfi Coast. My son called Naples Italy a sh*thole. I visited Italy about 25 years ago and loved florence.

I get that. Naples is crap. I was speaking of several places: Positano, Almafi, and Sorrento. But also a place in Sicily named Taormina (white lotus season 2 was filmed here). Of course, I also have to mention Paterno. I should also mention Bora Bora was pretty spectacular.
