Phillies waited too long to try trading Abel and Painter. Abel not much of a minor league track record but excellent in first two MLB starts, not so good in third start. Painter #2 minor pitcher, being exposed of late. Phillies starting staff decent, currently no room for another starter, particularly if Nola comes back, guess he was hurt, reason for the poor performance. Trade value of Abel and Painter has diminished, could have produced a bat and/or a competent reliever. Maybe these guys turn into something but for Phillies time is now. Wealthy ownership should keep Phillies competitive moving forward.

Mick Abel stats in 4 start in the majors, 2-0 with a 2.21 Era. They said Painter would not be called up till July staring out in the pen.
Still think Abel is a mirage, 4th start was also a good one. Prospects have value till they are exposed. Doubt anyone here is old enough to remember top Dodgers prospect Phils acquired many years ago, that would be second baseman Sparky Anderson, who I think did make the Hall, not as a player, but manager. Strictly mediocre as a player.
