Phillippi beats Fix

How did that kid not end up at PSU. he is beating everyone this year, wow!

This just in, Gross will be back this year, wrestling with a cane and a back brace.

...Philippi is no slouch... he was a 3x PA State Champion ... spent a RS Freshman year at Virginia...sat out a year last year after transferring to Pitt ... now in his second year at Pitt.. was granted a 6th year of eligibility by the NCAA...so he has 3 more years of eligibility after this year!...

He was not an offensive juggernaut in high school. There were a few kids that year who were PA studs that PSU didn't really look at. Cam Coy and Micky Phillippi are two. Both were 3X PIAA champs but neither were big offensive guys and I think that's why Cael didn't have tons of interest.

Both of these guys went to UVA but Micky transferred back to Pitt after his freshman season. He looks legit. Suriano beat him pretty good in the finals of an early season tournament (CKLV maybe?) but I think things might go differently in a rematch. I've been super impressed with him. He also beat Pletcher at the same tournament.

Was under the impression that you couldn't apply for a 6th year until your eligibility was up.

I was surprised, Fix just didn't shoot like I expected him. His shots were shallow ones. In the first period he had Phillippi in trouble with his arms locked high almost like RBY was caught in with Gomez match but Phillippi fought out of it twice.

At heavy, White is a beast.

Good match for Pitt, sorry El.

This isn't true about Phillippi. Cael recruited and offered him, and when Phillippi told Cael he was verballing to Virginia, Cael said the offer would stand if anything changed.

Regarding him in HS: Phillippi was the guy who scored at will until he faced the very best opponents. Then he went ultra-conservative on feet because he knew he'd win on the mat -- and he was a leech on top.

And that’s called delivering the truth ^^^^precisely how it went down

Phillipi and Pletcher had some epic battles if I recall correctly.

Having watched him in high school, I couldn’t believe he was only a redshirt-frosh this year. But that makes sense

I was going to head down to the match and didn’t cuz of the weather and it’s not even snowing just rained. Kicking myself

My new motto,

'you don't shoot you don't win'.

It's too hard to control or predict a close match. Go balls out and it usually ends well. Applies to Fix, Cassar, Suriano, Spencer,.. the list of victims to 'conservative' wrestling grows by the day. IMO Suriano is a stronger wrestler than Desanto but all things considered even, the more aggressive wrestler wins 65%+ of the time.

The list of benefactors is growing as well - Philipi, Desanto, Cassar ,.... (Yep several wrestlers have seen both sides)

Does Pitt wrestle in a jr. high gym? My high school gym is much large then this gym from that video
yeah it's small place but I have give them credit- it looks full and the house is pumped up. Good for Pitt.

I, for one, prefer small, intimate environments. Nowhere to breathe and compose. Just scrap.

Did you watch the match? That isn’t philipi’s
Style and not why he won the match

Fair enough. I wasn't aware that Cael had offered him. Although I do feel like guys on his level can score on will against most kids in high school. Phillippi was a kid I really liked out of high school and would have have loved to have him at PSU even though I thought he'd be more of a defensive and counter wrestler in college, which I think he is. I'm not surprised he's excelling.

Hey look Pitt wrestling is important to CW, as is every school because we've lost too many thru the years... Penn State is the beast and deserve all of their success, they've become Gable/ Iowa with way more class... as fans when it comes to this sport trying to bash Pitt for interstate school rivalry sake is beneath you all... your team is the Lion, literally in the jungle of wrestling... so PSUEng you should not and don't need to take pot shots... lastly a improving and growing Oitt program could ultimately help you because if they were to build it up, more PA kids stay home and less to Ohio St and Iowa... that helps the Lion that is PSU wrestling

Eh ....

Pitt needs to first beat out NCSt, UVA and similar schools before going toe-to-toe for any high end WPIAL recruit who has a solid offer from Iowa or Ohio State.

Crawl before walk.
Walk before run.

But, if you grew up with the PSU Pitt football rivaly in your blood then picking on Pitt is part of your DNA!
