There's a surprise... the PIAA making a poor decision.Very, very poor decision imo by PIAA. Hershey may have been "too big" for most games but Mechanisburg just doesn't scream "State Championships" for me. Their press box is nice but way too small to hold the number of people needed for state championship games.
I think this was key to the decision. Beaver Stadium was deemed too expensive to rent and operate for the games. The PIAA will get the most profit by playing at Cumberland and that’s what they choose.Hershey may just be getting to expansive. The big 33 game moved to Central Dauphin High school. Hershey uses and pays regular employees for everything. At these schools volunteers can help.
This has more to do with the national appeal of Pennsylvania high school wrestling. By all accounts the best wrestling top to bottom in the country. With that being said, PCN did a fantastic job and was a great broadcast every year. There's a surprise... the PIAA making a poor decision.
I'm wondering when they'll give the state wrestling finals back to PCN instead of the dopes at FLO. Or if they'll continue to auction off the broadcast rights of all the sports to the highest bidders.
Funny that it is still very close to Harrisburg. Gotta keep those donors happy. Keep those hotels in Harrisburg and bars and restaurants filled as I doubt Cumberland has enough motels.
If CV is still grass, that adds to an already poor decision by the PIAA. Look at the condition of Heinz Field after the WPIAL games. And that's on professional field turf. No way the average HS field holds up.I student taught at Cumberland Valley many years ago. I really enjoyed it. That said, why would they pick a grass field to hold these several games in December? It won't hold up. Maybe they have plans to replace the surface by using the money gained from winning this contract.
Could the football program subsidize it as a recruiting expense? Most state athletic associations are now going through RFP's (bidding process). We have recently done the same here with the NYSPHSAA. Some locations are offered cost free (because merchants in the community can use the business) because some cities and counties are even subsidizing the cost.
Keeping dues low for member schools is a major concern. I know that may not be the answer everyone wants to hear, but that's the process.
I'm sure PSU could not offer up Beaver Stadium cost free.http://www.piaa.org/news/details.aspx?ID=4013
Schools and communities would do a lot to get these deals. It’s a lot of prestige as well a local economic boost. And much of the cost can be offset by volunteers. Most state athletic associations are now going through RFP's (bidding process). We have recently done the same here with the NYSPHSAA. I can't be certain, but it would likely be an NCAA violation (as it would be a paid benefit).Could the football program subsidize it as a recruiting expense?
We have the site of our spring track and field offered for free. Costs are subsidized by the city and county as well as a donation from our section(like districts in Pa.). We give that money because having the event in our section saves 44 schools from paying for transportation and meals should it be held in another part of New York.Schools and communities would do a lot to get these deals. Should get the local tourist promotion agency involved. They often have access to state funds to fund and promote local activities. We have the site of our spring track and field offered for free. Hotels, motels and restaurants do very well over a three day period,
I'm not privy to all the details, I think that is where "the county" funding comes from.Should get the local tourist promotion agency involved. They often have access to state funds to fund and promote local activities.
Only questions are if they are getting turf and parking might be tight for some 4A to 6A games.Very, very poor decision imo by PIAA. It’s a $150 a year for a subscription, if you love wrestling this is cheap for what you get access to. Flo will have every round on ,whereas PCN only had the finals, glad they don’t have it anymore. Flo gives u access to so much wrestling content as well. I can find $150 for this and so can any wrestling fan if they truly careThere's a surprise... the PIAA making a poor decision.

This is total BS! Lots of bars and restaurants all over the city and especially downtown.I worked in Harrisburg for the last five years. That city is dead. There is hardly any restaurants or bars left. Strawberry square is literally a homeless shelter.
Perhaps it's a value for some. I really don't have interest in watching much outside of what I already get. Plus I now get the ACC Network so I get more. It’s a $150 a year for a subscription, if you love wrestling this is cheap for what you get access to. Like what? Arooga's, Carley's, Sawyer's, Federal Tap House, the cork and fork, and burger yum? That's a hell of a lineup that would make me want to go down there and dodge the homeless and mentally ill. /sarcasmThis is total BS! Apparently you don't realize that you can walk past the single block that all those you listed are on right? What a dope.Like what? Harrisburg is a dump and a joke of a city. The morons sold off all their parking garages so parking is around 20 bucks a day and killed any incentive for people to come in and park. They had to negotiate a deal with the SP parking because no one was paying 15 bucks to park for a sub par meal. just wait till this remote work continues and all that government office space doesn't get renewed for leases...it'll be even worse.
You're a clown. They aren't even good restaurants and there isn't anything else there worth going to. What, do you own a dying restaurant in downtown harrisburg? Hell, even jimmy john's closed.Apparently you don't realize that you can walk past the single block that all those you listed are on right? What a dope.
Hershey is nice and I'm there often. However, numbnuts above mentioned a few restaurants all on the same block and specifically pointed out Sawyers. He's got to be less than 27 to even mention that place and at 27 he's still reliving his HS heroics.Hershey has a better bar scene with many micro breweries, better restaurants and is much safer. It is also more for the 30 somethings and older. The young'uns like Harrisburg. I like the low key of a draft at Troegs
36 and lived in DC and NYC prior to getting transferred to my office in the federal building in harrisburg. Nice try ass clown who has lived his entire life in central PA and thinks he knows everything....Hershey is nice and I'm there often. Both Harrisburg and Hershey have really nice restaurants and bars.
Don't worry, you should reach puberty any day now. It's no wonder why after 5 years you haven't found places to go...no one likes you. If you weren't such a jerk I, or somebody here, would have given you lots of great recommendations.
