Pirates trade Morton but who they received in return is not an answer.

I'm beginning to think the Pirates know that Glasnow, Taillon, and/or Kinghman are ready to contribute early this year. I look for them to dump Locke and expect that 2 of the 3 will be in the starting rotation by June.

From your lips to God's ears.

Why they need to dump salary I dont know. They are a wealthy franchise. They should be adding.

Biertempfel said he just talked to Hurdle and they are looking at a FEW pitchers and they have a plan.

If they bring in 2 of Kazmir, Leake, Chen, Alvarez I will be happy.

BTW, current payroll is $88M and they wanna be at about $110M

I think the Pirate organization may be looking at the competition next season and do not like their chances. They may tread water early in the season - keep their fan interest somewhat satisfied - till some of their minor league pitching can contribute, and then make a run in 2017.

I hope you're wrong. That scenario would not make me happy. They should be able to contend again this year.

Very little return for Morton. Sounds like a salary dump in order to sign a free agent.

You have no clue. They are certainly not a wealthy franchise. Check where their TV deals rank with other MLB teams.

Their owner is in the middle of the pack in terms of wealth. they are way more capable of having a higher payroll. Pirate fans are just to dumb and go to games and support a owner that pockets tons yearly and puts minimal back in.

Orioles and I think KC in the hunt for Kazmir. Pirates likely won't win that one. Mat Latos is another possibility.
The "treading water" theory for 2016 makes a lot of sense, except that the Pirates' front office has never shown the ability or the desire to "go for it". They want to do more with less. An admirable desire, but unfortunately, one that usually comes up short in the end.
