Pitino presser [lots of JVP]

Agree. Nice things he said but very very hard to celebrate a first class loser like him no matter what he says about Joe Paterno.

Loser?

What he does in his personal life is up to him, I am not his friend or a family member. That said he just won me over by this. We have been waiting for someone to say this stuff, who cares about what he did.

When it all comes down to it, this is more than Todd Blackledge has said. More than Matt Millen has said. More than Sean Lee has said. Which is PATHETIC!

My problem here is that I wonder where these words were years ago Rick, when they could have mattered to Joe/Sue/PSU and not to you? You know - back when there wasn't a convenient analogy to be made in an effort to extract some slime from your back?

Ok. Intersting take. Reading this board I would guess you may be in the minority with that thought process. Which by the way I couldn't care less about either way. I commend you for being straight forward

...hard to make friends with this guy, but he has the JVP stuff right.

Good - glad someone has the balls to speak out on behalf of Joe.
I heard a similar story regarding Calipari - a couple of people were his guests a year or so ago at a game. They were both from Western PA, as is Calipari. One of them is now on the PSU BOT. Anyway, the first question he asked these guests was about Paterno and when PSU was going to do right by him. He said when this all went down, he was ready to speak out on Joe's behalf, and when the NCAA crap happened, he wanted to again. Kentucky told him not to. His perspective is that all coaches who got to know Joe support him and recognize the screw job put to him, and everybody recognizes the hypocrisy of the NCAA in their business-as-usual dealings.
Leads me to believe that once the expected results of the lawsuits, etc. come to light, there will be a bunch of people finding the guts to speak on Joe's behalf. Too bad more haven't so far, but at some point we'll be happy to hear what they say in support of Joe. And that will help to right the ship from a national perspective. Better late than never, but far better sooner than later!

Maybe Jim Delany will take the lead on this and proudly announce the return of Paterno's name to the Big Ten Conference Championship Trophy. *sigh...*

Coach Petino has made some mistakes, but I am not judge or jury. I am a Penn State fan and alumnus who cares about clearing Joe's name and restoring his honor. Happy to see one of MBB best coaches say this.

I will agree on Millen, but Blackledge killed it at Joe's memorial service. He was not great right after the Freeh Report as I recall, but I remember hearing a radio interview with him sometime after that where he said he had since dug more into the facts and had it wrong and regretted it. It was fairly lengthy and linked on this board as I recall. Maybe somebody has the link?

At his memorial service? He has said nothing out in public. Only thing he has done is criticize the staff.

Poz is another one I am truly disappointed in. Didn't he say Joe should have done more?

That was a Ziegler interview over the phone for his un-financed documentary. That isn't exactly mainstream media. TB should have done more.

I will also disagree about TB "killing" it at JVP's memorial service. Cefalo "killed it". TB not so much.

Ok. Thanks for the discussion you brought to the table.

Actually he is 100% right. You are one of the ones who have cried for 2 years on here about nobody stating the truth or standing up for Joe. You get a guy, a pretty big guy from his sport, and you are going to excuse what he said cause of something morally. Something that is none of your concern. Is a personal family issue.

Listen Nate I appreciate what you are saying. I just find it interesting that many can judge guys like Meyer, Saben, and Harbaugh all the time on this board and talk about how they are scums. You actually don't do that because you are actually stand up enough kind of guy to speak your mind. So I guess my comments should not be directed toward you at all.

He certainly has gained my respect with those honest comments.

I think this is the start of a lot of people coming out supporting Joe and chastising Emmert and his clown show.

Here is that telephone interview. Very thoughtful and honest. Nobody ex player can compare to what Franco has done. I can appreciate where Todd was coming from given his situation at the time. I openly admit I like Todd and see no reason to hate on him. If facts emerge that turn our way, he can and I believe will be very useful given his platform and stature.

Gotta start with uncovering the hatchet job - need to be able to critique the Freeh Report 1st and maybe some more depositions and get the info out and then you'll see the turnaround. But the anchoring done by the AG's office followed by BOT travesty will be hard to turn around without the above needed help.
