That’s interesting, because I thought that he might be a candidate for the PSU job.
Nah, I'm not buying it Soupy. Pitt gave up 28.4 ppg this year, 91st in the country. He teaches his cornerbacks to hold and pass interfere on every play because he knows it won't get called on every play. He had all that time to prepare for mighty Toledo, the 7th best team in the MAC and lost.Pitt with pretty suspect talent has generally had a good defense the past 3-4 years............. Narduzzi although not a great, ok not a good head coach is a good defensive coach.
The universe seems to be in some sort of ideal alignment for us lately.Just when I thought it couldn't get any better with PSU wooing away eh-high-ya's DC, then eh-high-ya takes Duzzy's DC right out from under him!!!!
Gotta love it!!!
He didn't coach at Michigan State.Nah, I'm not buying it Soupy. Pitt gave up 28.4 ppg this year, 91st in the country. In 2023, Pitt gave up 27.3 ppg which was 76th in the country. In bowl losses to Northwestern and Navy, and when he was DC at Michigan State against Baylor, he had a month to prepare and his defenses were beaten like a drum. Not a defensive guru whatsoever.
He's had losses to WVU with the Mountaineers using their third string QB and lost to Syracuse in 2023 when the Orange used a tight end at quarterback and they ran 66 out of 74 plays and they couldn't stop them and no one accused Syracuse's offensive line of being noteworthy.

Western Michigan upset Pitt on Saturday 44-41 in a thrilling game. The bigger story, however, was the damning comments that Broncos head coach Tim Lester made about Panthers head cwww.outkick.com

Oh so he teaches his defenders to hold and PI every play. He'll for right into OSU's system!!! 😉🤔😊Nah, I'm not buying it Soupy. Pitt gave up 28.4 ppg this year, 91st in the country. The physical CB/DB play seems to have become more prevalent across all of major college football. When the referees allow teams to get away with it and it proves to be a component of their winning formula, you can bet that the other teams will copy this technique.Oh so he teaches his defenders to hold and PI every play. He'll for right into OSU's system!!! 😉🤔😊
I hear he's a real defensive master.
Pitts defense has really regressed under defensive master Bates the last four years:Pitt with pretty suspect talent has generally had a good defense the past 3-4 years............. Narduzzi although not a great, ok not a good head coach is a good defensive coach.
I think that also correlates to Pitt's recruiting regressing too. Pitt is not having an easy time with the NIL and pay for play. I'm not criticizing this because it's a fact of life now, but their new AD practically was begging for people to make payments to players on the The Fan's Saturday Morning Pitt Show at 8:00 a.m. this past Saturday.Pitts defense has really regressed under defensive master Bates the last four years:
NCAA Rankings
Scoring Defense: 92/73/50/42
Total Defense: 81/49/22/39
I have to believe their talent level also has a lot to do with it.Pitts defense has really regressed under defensive master Bates the last four years:

Yep, money is why Heather Lyke got canned despite upgrading just about every sport other than football.I think that also correlates to Pitt's recruiting regressing too. I went back and looked at the 247 Team Recruiting Composite ratings and Pitt really suckedI think that also correlates to Pitt's recruiting regressing too. And that’s with an ACC scheduleI went back and looked at the 247 Team Composite ratings and Pitt really sucked
In 2024 they were 41st
2023 - 52nd
2022 - 76st
The talent just isn't there.
And the talent is what it is due to their inability to be competitive with NIL. i.e. paying their players as other teams can do, so they lose many of the recruiting battles that they used to win or at least be competitive in.I have to believe their talent level also has a lot to do with it.
The last name mentioned and to whom I was referring to in the thread, was Pat Narduzzi and he most certainly coached at Michigan State. He didn't coach at Michigan State.

Only Duquesne gave up more yards and point than Pitt did against Toledo all season. Duquesne gave up 1 more point at 21 more yards. That tells me it not completely a talent issue.I have to believe their talent level also has a lot to do with it.
Bowen was at Penn State.Looks like they hired UVA coach to coach up the OL (could be Scottie Scheffler - checking on that)
