How did Pittsburgh do as a host?

PPG Paints Arena: "B" There was a lot of talk that the arena would be too small but the attendance each session was around 18,000.

Hotels: (n/a for me) There are a lot downtown. How were they with/for the fans?

Restaurants: "B+" The ones I went to seemed to handle the crowds well. Food was good, food options were pretty varied.

Nightlife: "A" Again, a lot of choices, from downtown, Strip, South Side, North Shore, Lawrenceville. All were handy and busy.

Getting Around: "B" If staying dowtown, it's pretty easy to.walk places or UBER

Fans: "A" Great atmosphere in the arena and in the streets

Locals: "A" Locals seemed happy to host

Fan Fest: "A" Great crowds, great venue - never been to a convention center with such a scenic view

Overall, I'd give Pittsburgh an A- or B+ as as host.

Will probably never return as next yr they will go into big indoor stadiums for the first time. Domes will rule going forward, I suspect, as once they get a taste of that $$$ it will be hard going back.

Also, once you get to know the "T" light rail transportation is easy and free downtown.

Also met the sweetest and nicest server in a restaurant .... named Libby ;)

Those that sat in the upper decks, how was the view?

2nd level view was good. The 2nd level at PPG is steep, so you're not too too far from the action.
I stumbled into an upgrade Friday morning in section 111 (a few rows back from Robbie Howard decked in PSU gear). Great seats, but about a 1/4 of the mats on my side were cutoff. Obviously, that wasn't an issue in the upper deck. It certainly seemed a lot closer than last year in Cleveland.

I am Partisan because I live here but I thought overall it was a great experience. The police and traffic control was great, many folks got to see one or two or our local crossing police pros in action keeping everyone headed in the right direction.

PPG made an adjustment after the first session and opened earlier and they had plenty of food and beer kiosks open and well staffed.

The city itself is easy to navigate and full of places to grab beers and great food. The North Shore Stadium area is close, same with the strip, downtown, market Square and South Side and variety for everyone. The scene was fun and all the fans seemed to be enjoying themselves.

I would give Pittsburgh an A +, everyone tasked with pulling this off did a great job. Pittsburgh Proud.

I have two observations. 1. in the first session I was at the 50 yard line upper deck. Great viewing of all mats. 2. The rest of the event i was in the upper deck at the corners. A long view all the way to the other end.
Note: IF you are 6'2"... sitting that long in those crunched up seats will make you stiff.

I had that problem at the BIG10 Tournament last year.

I concur with all of this. We (NoVa, I and quite a few others) stayed at the Hyatt North Shore. It took us 18-20 minutes to get to the arena on the T. At South Side on Thu., North Shore Fri., and with the Alumni on Sat. Pittsburgh people are AWESOME (full disclosure, that's where our parents are from).

Native pittsburghers always give Pittsburgh an a+. It’s genetic.
