Hoping for a big day, especially with Smith in a continuing position of need.

Brandon Smith is the second-ranked inside linebacker in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Penn State and Ohio State are considered the leaders in his recruitment.

Tyler Rudolph is the 22nd-ranked safety in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He will choose between Penn State, Clemson, Michigan, Ohio State and Florida.

All things being equal, which they are not................it comes down to the book allowance and the option to take a..........less rigorous academic path. Perhaps it is time to disband the NCAA and form 2 divisions. Instead of Leaders and Legends (who got paid for that genius?) how about the Readers and the Cheaters.

I see there are a couple of Pitt lurkers on the board...
Haha, I thought the same thing when I saw those votes. All of these blue chip commitments must be eating at them. I’d have great respect if they posted, using facts and quotes from the recruitment of those two players, why they think PSU gets neither.

Both commit to PSU late this afternoon. One head to head PSU vs. OSU, the other head to head PSU vs. Clemson. Wow. Not many teams can pull that off.

Hope we are lucky enough to get them both

Signs look pretty good. But if it isn't these guys, Franklin will have other great players lined up.

If PSU is really going to recruit on anything like Ohio State's level, you recruit a ton of top 200 players, you lose some and win some. My sense is Paterno recruited relatively few high-profile players because they weren't recruting much outside the 600 mile radius. So if they lost out on big recruits in their backyard, the scholarship usually went to a 2nd tier guy.

Franklin and staff don't put their eggs in one basket. They engage with a lot more players than they have scholarships for, and stay in touch even after the scholarship is gone. That way they have options. It also makes sense because decommitments are such a big part of recruiting now.

One of my favorite moments in PSU recruiting was a year and a half ago when PSU lost Dylan Rivers at the last minute to Va. Tech -- and that just made room for Brooks, who is going to be a really good linebacker.

Another thing I like about Franklin's approach is that he's apparently not going to take a commitment from a player who is still flirting with other programs -- even a player as good as Parsons. A lot of schools would like to take that stand, but they can't afford to. Franklin can because he's playing from strength with so many great players interested in PSU.
