You most likely have heard the saying about a particular athlete being worth the price of admission.
Who meets that definition in your mind? Past and present? I'll just list those that immediately come to my mind since I've been paying attention to sports.

NHL - Lemieux, Gretzky
NFL - Simpson, Sanders, Campbell, Payton, Rodgers
NBA - Bird, Magic, Maravich, Abdul-Jabbar, Jordan, Lebron, Curry
MLB - Clemente, Griffey, Jr., Seaver, Pedro Martinez, Ryan, Randy Johnson, Maddux

NBA: Wilt, Oscar Robertson, the Bill Russell Celtics, Elgin Baylor.
MLB: Mays, Mantle, Koufax, Banks, Gibson, Aaron, Ted Williams, plus those old time Yankee greats

For my money, no player showed up and backed it up better than Deon Sanders. I hare flashy, showboat type players (and what he did to Tim McCarver was bush league), but he was always the best player on the football field.

Agreed, Saquon Barkley is worth the price of admission RIGHT NOW at Penn State! If he stays healthy, he can be up there with the NFL greats before he is finished!

It's been said here many times in one way or another, but the kid simply has "it". He is a special talent. Given that, I love his humility.

And often the baseball field. Saw him get an inside the park HR in Cooper Stadium (AAA). He was around second before the ball hit. Yes he had a big mouth--ad I don't like the flashy guys either. But he also backed it up every time. I always respected that.

Bo Nickal.................PSU wrestling.............His match alone is worth the price of admission.

MLB: Mark "The Bird" Fidrych before his injury, Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt, Willie Stargell
NBA: Jordan, Russell, Chamberlain, Doc Irving, Jordan, and... Jordan
Hockey: Bobby Hull, and the old Soviet players
NFL: Jack Ham, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Gayle Sayers, Unitas

As the saying goes, it ain't bragging if you can back it up... This saying existed prior to Deon Sanders, but he epitomized this more than any other football player I can think of.

Barry Bonds was worth the price of admission. You can debate if he was on the juice. But his offensive numbers were crazy

The Doc and Lefty. And Koufax (my first baseball game). Always the possibility of history every time he started.

The two best pure athletes in the last 50 years: Tiger Woods and Muhammad Ali.

Baseball: Sandy Koufax

Basketball: Bird and Curry

Football: Brady and OJ Simpson
