Playing Georgia sounds good...

Interesting that the article states that the OOC schedules are set through 2019 yet the 2019 schedule that is posted on the PSU official sports website lists 2 TBA games. I guess hey know who the opponents will be but for some reason have not made it public.

They may have to wait for the Big Ten schedule to see what the available dates are....

If I remember correctly, the Big Ten was going to start scheduling conference games earlier in the year, and let the schools play OOC games throughout the season, similar to what the SEC does.

That's what I was thinking. Not that it doesn't happen occasionally anyway--as I recall when we entered the league, some of our early games were vs Big Ten opponents--wasn't our first conference game also the first game of the season (vs Minny) that year??

Yep. And in 2006 and 2007, we played Temple in November. Maybe we've played other OOC games after the start of the B1G schedule in more recent years but I can't remember. I never understood the idea of forcing teams to play all of their OOC games at the beginning of the season.

see above guys in the pinned section for future schedules. the Big has listed out dates through 2019 for conference games. the OOC games are all at the start of the season

Playing Georgia does sound good.

Playing Georgia later in the season - perhaps November - sounds great.

I'd like to see an SEC team play in cold weather for a change.
The one time we got Bama to come up to Happy Valley in November, it was 75 at game time (as I recall). The Bear sure had an "in" somewhere....

With the Bear, it would have been 75 at game regardless of the weather. He would have brought 1,000 portable heaters with him.

is that a ben jones article? if so i'm not clicking. nothing against him (i actually like his work), but statecollege dot com makes you answer a survey question before reading the article! no thanks, talk about a low budget operation

Playing Georgia would be outstanding (in 2020). Sandy really needs to step up the scheduling, which is hard since the big 10 expanded, but there should be on marquee OOC game EVERY year. AT HOME.

bingo. and don't call Pitt a "marquee" game. i don't care what you need to do to make it happen financially, just make it happen. period. if that means cutting elsewhere in the budget, such as a bloated athletic department front office, then do so. get creative.

Getting Georgia would be the first announcement of an OOC game that would give me a woody in over ten years. And before anyone brings up Alabama, that was announced more than a decade ago.

When the new TV contract is announced look for more conference games to be moved to September. There has already been some movement towards that (look at OSU schedules in 2017 and 2018), but our TV partners are going to want more than just MAC games for the first 3 weeks of the year when they shell out even more money. However, don't see our premium home and home game moving to the end of the B1G schedule.

October 28, 1989, Alabama played at Happy Valley. Although not quite November, it poured rain and looked to be rather cold. Bama won on a blocked PSU FG. Don't remember if Curry had 1000 heaters or not.

My memories of that game end prior to the final play (blocking it out, pun intended), but I do vividly recall it was a BEAUTIFUL day weather-wise. I don't recall any rain or cold. Blair and the line stood tall on that final drive. Easily one of the most crushing PSU losses for me.

I must have that game confused with another Bama/PSU at Beaver, then. Sorry about that.

While I agree, I'd be happy with one marquee game whether at home, on the road, or at a neutral site. I just don't think it will be feasible to get a top P5 team at home every single year without having 2 of them on the schedule because each will also want a home game. And scheduling 2 marquee P5 teams, while awesome for us fans, wouldn't be a smart way to maximize national title chances. I'd be happy with 1 per year, even if it's on the road.

The LSU discussions continue btw. We wanted a neutral site game in the deal. Hopefully, it happens.

Please let this be true. I'm close enough to LA to attend. I've always wanted to go to a game at LSU, I'd prefer a true road game but would be happy with either result. I also know people with LSU season tickets so I'd actually have a real chance of getting a seat.

No problem. As I recall, the 81 game had cold weather, but was dry/dreary. Bear's only visit to the Beav. 1983 was the game where PSU was struggling after an 0-3 start and put it to Bama hard for 3 quarters, leading 34-7, before hanging on for dear life, winning on the final play (a short side pitch to the southwest side of the field that was stuffed well short of the goal line). 1985 was the game where Matt Knizner cam on after Shaffer got hurt and threw a TD. PSu won 19-17. 1987 was an 8 p.m. start and played in heavy downpours. Bobby Humphrey ran wild -- 200 plus.

I now live in Atlanta and would LOVE to see Penn State playing UGA in Athens. This would be a mega-event here and would be great for both programs! If we started playing in 2020, I believe Penn State would be a power-house ny then. I hope UGA would also to make this a HUGE game! Having UGA coming up to Beaver Stadium would also be huge! Please, let's make this happen!

It must have been the 87 game. I remember watching it and feeling a bit sorry for the fans that sat through the downpour to see a loss. At the time I was working with a lot of PSU alumni in the DC area and their spirits were a bit dampened after that game (pun intended).

Some excellent games in that series.

Sorry to hear you haven't had a woody in over ten years. My apologies for taking liberties with your post. o_O
