Penn State ranked higher regardlessI am pulling for PSU to beat Oregon on Saturday, but what about this scenario? Suppose Oregon were to win by 3 points or less. Who then should be ranked higher in the playoff OSU or PSU?
Your analysis makes sense. However, I am not sure the people who decide this will see it that way. OSU did beat PSU in State College. OSU probably also played the tougher regular season schedule.Penn State ranked higher regardless
The Michigan loss kills Ohio State
Penn State 11-2 > Ohio State 10-2. The extra win with no bad losses.
I 100% believe that and most here will tell you they think I'm an Ohio State fan lolYour analysis makes sense. However, I am not sure the people who decide this will see it that way. OSU did beat PSU in State College. OSU probably also played the tougher regular season schedule.
You've gotta win the games. The SOS is secondary. And the championship game is different. Both PSU and tOSU end with two losses but tOSU's are in the regular season. PSU will have lost to two top ten teams (tOSU and Oregon). tOSU lost to a top-ten team and a middle-of-the-pack, 6-5 team. Easy choice, really. PSU is 11-1, tOSU is 10-2. PSU plays a 13th game and tOSU does not. You can't elevate a team for not making it to the championship game.Your analysis makes sense. SOS is a factor in the committee's thinking. OSU also beat PSU as an away game. Beat Oregon and it is all academic. You've gotta win the games. The SOS is secondary. All true but there's no logic in Penn State dropping that far for a conference title game against #1. If we were playing Clemson or ASU or someone you'd be on to something.SOS is a factor in the committee's thinking. OSU also beat PSU as an away game. Beat Oregon and it is all academic.
SOS is secondary to overall record. Lots of teams have better SOS than Oregon. Lots of teams have 1 loss. But every good team with 0 or 1 loss will be in the playoff. SOS only comes into 2 loss teams this year. 3 and you are out. (at least this year) That is why I SOS is secondary.SOS is a factor in the committee's thinking. OSU also beat PSU as an away game. There is no way Ohio State is ahead of Penn State after Saturday. They leap us because they are not good enough to be in the ccg?
