Darn it!!! I knew I was going to miss the coaches show, and of course I did. Thankful that it is archived!!!
 
And just as a throw away comment, is anyone else sick of the AT&T commercial you are forced to watch every time? Please come up with something new.....

Pardon the dumb question, but is the coaches show available on iTunes or other podcast places where I can download them? I know I can click on the link, but I usually listen to these things on my commute and trying to save data. thanks!

The internet gives us access we could only dream about a few years ago.

Watching a 15 second ad is a small price to pay IMO.

I don’t mind watching an ad, I just mind that it is the same ad for at least two years now. Variety is the spice of life.

BrettPSU posted in the PSU/tOSU thread that he was talking to a guy in line at the concession stand that was sitting 4 seats down from Ben. Maybe we can ask him which concession stand to get a general idea... lmao

Love T-Row & Funky, except for all the Ohio love, but what are you going to do. What was the "Bush League Tactics" Tommy was referring to, our relentless stall solicitation?

From Ben's twitter feed, someone spotted him and circled him in the crowd and he retweeted it. But, nobody is behind him in this photo. I think you can tell that is Ben, because he is bare-footed. He mentioned on the prior show that he was taking his old coach with him, with tickets he got from David Taylor

I listened to Ben and Tommy for the first time today. My only complaint is in the end Ben talked about our guys basically overachieving and tOSU under and how we should both average back out the next time. He failed to mention the big swing of Nolf, but in fairness Tommy did, though Ben failed to comment back.

I don't necessarily think our guys swung up that far, closer to doing what was expected, by at least me. And if you add Nolf back in then there is a big swing still going up! Easily a 8 or more (probably more) point difference.

Now Tommy did mention that how Nolf comes back will effect things, I am the eternal optimist and think he will be back, at least at NCAA's in 100% strength and full bonus point potential.
 
I have a lot more confidence in our guys performing well in March, compared to the Bucks. Snyder is as sure a bet as possible, as was Logan S when he wrestled. The other guys, not so much. NATO will be hard pressed to win with Spencer and the NS. I would take Bo over Myles and Mark over BoJo. For the rest of the team, I like our guys coming out and performing. I am hoping for his sake his sake, Nolf is healthy. But even without him, I give our guys a better than average shot.

I have listened to a few of their podcasts, and just listened to the PSU vs. Ohio state one late last night. Overall it was a pretty good listen. I really like Ben cause he seems to straight shooter and seems well spoken. Tommy seems like a great guy but he shows way too much favoritism to the bucks. In past shows it’s ridiculous.

Now in this show I think he mentioned he was gonna try and be non biased as possible. And at the end of the show right before talking about the Snyder and Nevills match, he says he has been really good all show not making excuses for the buckeyes. Now first off I disagree. He made plenty of excuses prior. Now obviously he is a mega fan of theirs and I get it, but it is impossible for to really be impartial for him.

So here are a few I remember leading up to the heavyweight discussion. Nato wrestled differently and not his normal self. Kuhn got lucky with TD when nato slipped on a banana peel! Said other stuff too making an array of excuses for Tomasello. I guess NATO was not lucky the scorers table was not a few feet further back? Huh Tommy? Guess headlock was luck too? Pletcher should have majored Keeener?? Right because Pletcher is a bonus machine. Lol. They both said Hayes was not stalling. Both made excuse why the heck did Hayes pull Zain into crap ride? Should have just drove him straight down. Both gave major props to Zain.

Can’t remember what they said about Campbell giving up late TD? I do know no credit was giving to Cenzo for going after it. Tommy loved the duck from Hall, Ben said it was nothing special. Bojo basically was an idiot for pushing into Mark. Tommy says Jordan needs to wrestle different and stop being so defensive and he can beat anyone basically. Ben ripped on Jordan and all buckeyes for sucking on the bottom. Tommy picked Jordan at B10s.

They both gave props to Nickal for being a dangerous and good wrestler overall. Tommy and Ben disagreed about Martins strategy when he had Bo in a crackdown twice. Too much to explain. Again Tommy picking Martin in their next match.

Not getting into too much detail but man the excuses rained down for Moore. Again IMO not near enough credit giving to Cassar. Moore was sick, cut too much weight, PSU crowd, etc.

And then he goes full bore of excuses on why captain America could not deliver. It’s hysterical. I swore Cap promised on Twitter that he was gonna destroy PSU?? But now all the sudden a little pressure and it was too much to ask for? So why didn’t he go out and destroy Nick? I don’t care if you all disagree on his twitter post or not. One thing can not be debated. Snyder talked the talk and did NOT back it up. Tommy save all your pathetic excuses for the “best wrestler in the world” for someone who cares. Snyder had a job to do and he failed. Sure he won the match, by 5 points, but he could not win the dual for them and destroy PSU like he promised. Some will say his tweet was in fun, which I disagree with, and if you think that this all in fun for me. Overall the excuses are just sad, and again no real credit to Nevills. In fact Tommy said Nick had it easy cause all he had to do was essentially just stall. Right, I guess he missed Nicks first attack and TD?! I didn’t see Nick back up all match. Enough said on that.

Overall it’s a good listen. Just don’t like all the excuses for the bucks and not near enough credit for the PSU wrestlers rising to the occasion. Ben always makes great points and seems fair in his assessments. Again Tommy seems like a really awesome guy but is too homeristic and does not give PSU guys enough credit. Just my opinion on one listen to it real late last night or early morning actually. Never posted this much let alone on my phone. Prob lotta typos.

In all honesty, I expected a lot worse from them, especially Tom, but from a neutral’s and a Buckeye’s perspective , I was ok with it or I would never have recommended it to the Board.

I so admire James’ memory... I had every intention after listening to it to come here and post a recap, but by the time I got to the end of it, I already forgot what I had for breakfast... being a “seasoned” citizen has its disadvantages.:confused:

The big things I do remember were their believe that N Lee will not reach the NCAA podium and that Hayes “wrestled hard and should not ever have been called for stalling”. Oh, also the PSU crowd used to “know” wrestling but were now ignorant to stalling rules just like those screamers at CHA. o_O

Italianlion. Thanks for the link. I listen to Bens mental Monday’s on FB. Really good stuff. Last one he said he was gonna to the podcast right after it and I was wondering when it would be up.

Yeah I remember the comments on the Iowa crowds. Funny stuff. They said they are not real wrestling fans, just Hawkeye fans. Haha. Something like that. And also about Nick Lee. Actually they made some good interesting points about him which I kind of agree with. Now I am just going off of memory. They basically said they disagree with him being the next Zain. Saying he is going to be really good just not that good. He has more loses this year than Zain does in his career. Zain beat two time NCAA champ as a true freshman. And out of his 3 career losses two are to Logan and one to Port. Guys get to Nick Lees legs way to much compared to Zain. And they also said he gets ridden on bottom. I thought they were all fair points.

Also Ben said there was a unsigned high profile recruit sitting behind him in a PSU coat or sweatshirt?? Would not reveal his name.

Lastly Tommy gave a funny story at the end. Not really funny at the moment but he made it sound funny. Basically he was driving his wife’s expensive vehicle and the differential or something broke down on the highway in a few inches of snow. He had his 3 kids with him and I think he said father? Well anyway had to be towed home the rest of the way and the bill was like $900 or something expensive!! But thankfully he said the vehicle is under warranty and getting fixed at the moment. Basically said it was rough considering his bucks lost and than that happened.

I actually thought the N Lee comments were pretty thought-provoking too... 141 is really deep and he is a freshman. Zain is also “one of a kind”... but that doesn’t mean that Nick will not be a wicked awesome going forward, even with a few surprises this season... I am not prepared to “write him off” at all!!

All that said, likely my last post of the evening as the keyboard is getting smaller and smaller every drink I have here at the old G-Man! Getting an early start on tomorrow!!!! :D

Ben is mistaken, but sometimes I think Ben says imperfect stuff just to feed the crowd.

If they wrestled that dual over again the most likely changed outcome is Nick Lee winning his match.

Another consideration is they do not wrestle a 2 out of 3 dual series. The winning team in a closely contested competition is the team with the guys who step up to the opportunity. As what has become the norm, when rested and ready to rock and roll Cael's kids routinely step up to meet the opportunity.

The missing recruit is easily explained by the fact the NLWC doesn't provide doggy bags at their "special" Recruiting Lounge for the Kobe and Lobster dinner leftovers. This photo was clearly taken before the match.

All Nevills had to do was stall. Campbell stalled, cost him 2 stalling points and allowed Cenzo to get the major. Nevills stalls and gives up 2 to 4 stalling points and maybe Snyder's catch and release strategy works. Given that Snyder beat Nevills last year by 10 and Nick wrestled poorly, when Nick got the first takedown of the match, as long as he did not give up backpoints, Ohio State had effectively lost the match. That is what the non-stalling strategy does.

That podcast didn't start the Lee to Retherford comparison, PSU fans did. Seen the comparison before on this board (multiple occasions). Always thought it was a bit irrational.

Overall, the podcast was a pretty good listen, with a couple exceptions. First, the two guys kept interrupting and talking over each other, similar to the Flo podcasts. Gets tiresome after a while. Second, they spewed out some wrong info. Said that McKenna had more TDs than Nick Lee in their match, which indirectly supported the subsequent opinion that Lee is overhyped and unlikely to AA (McKenna and Lee each had two TDs). Also said that Kyle Snyder had a TF over Nick Nevills in the 2017 dual meet - this too is incorrect (it was a MD), and again was used to support an opinion. Not a big deal, but you'd think these guys could get their facts correct.
