John Belushi, not on this list but my next favorite was Phil Hartman, he could impersonate many people besides having trademark characters like John.

depends how you are rating this... as individuals? John Belushi was insanely funny, but his life was cut short so he doesn't have the body of work the others have. My personal favorite it Bill Murray, but the others are awesome as well.

As a cast... there has never been another that compares.

Love them all but Bill, John and Dan stood out above the others.

Season 44 starts next weekend!

FWIW, I didn't think Murray was an original cast member. I thought he joined as a bit player in year 2 or 3 and then moved on to the permanent cast. I remember him doing the NL radio hour.

Yeah, that’s what the * is for. He joined in ‘77.

IIRC one of their characters was dating a sports writer who had a miniature stand up Joe on his desk.

The actor who portrayed the sportscaster is Sam Freed. He went to York Suburban High School and I believe Penn State. He played the Baltimore Sun editor on the final season of "The Wire." He also was a finalist for a spot as a regular on SNL in its first season.

I'll go with Aykroyd from the first cast but I think the poll would be more interesting if it was your favorite ever. Or maybe your three ordered favorites, where your 1st place vote gets 5 points, 2nd place 3 points and 3rd place 1 point then add it up like an MVP poll.

But anyway, my favorite ever is Phil Hartman. In addition to the few things people linked to, he was great at doing Frank Sinatra, Phil Donahue, Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer, Ed McMahon, etc. He was even great straight. Look up the first skit where Chris Farley did Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker and Hartman was great playing the Dad (of David Spade and Christina Applegate).

As pointed out several times above, Bill Murray was not On season 1, but still gets lumped in with the rest of the originals. For my money, he’s by far the funniest from that group (and possibly of all time).

Other favorites since have been Phil Hartman, Christopher Guest, Eddie Murphy, Martin Short, Mike Myers, Dana Carvy, Norm MacDonald, and Dennis Miller.

The problem is you can only have a max of ten choices per poll. Trying to whittle down the ten best SNL actors of all time will probably lead to more arguing than voting. I’m willing to give it a shot though. Maybe have a couple early rounds to really narrow it down.

Aykroyd and it’s not close. Him as the Conehead or with Belushi as Blue Brothers were great.

All time even though I don’t like him, Will Ferrell was good. But so many others like Mike Meyers, Dana Carvey, Eddie Murphy mocking Mister Rogers was funny.

Dan "Jane you ignorant slut" Aykroyd. Very funny And his talent allows him to stretch to a variety of areas (yes I know not part of the poll question but still very cool).
