Just a quick update on the facilities master plan for the athletic department:

Scott Radecic, a former PSU football player and now senior principal at Populous, the company that is tasked with coming up with the plan, was just on the Penn State Coaches Show on ESPN1450.

Populous, is a 33-year old company that works in sports architecture, concentrated mostly on college campuses. PSU hired it to essentially design the blueprints for the renovations to the Lasch Building and to provide consultation on the future of Beaver Stadium.

Since his team was put on the job, as many as seven representatives have been in State College evaluating the athletic department's need, and they plan to continue sending at least three until the plan reaches its completion.

"We look at all the venues, we look at all the sports, we looked at the the way the administration works we look at the life of student athlete and the daily life of the coaches," Radecic said. "We ask a questions. We collect data so that we can make suggestions and recommendations on how they can improve the facilities."

"...We’ve been asking questions and collecting data. We’ve sat down with various people in the athletic department and OPP to handle all the design and construction of things on campus. We ask them about their goals and their objectives and their priorities.”

“...Then we start talking with the coaches. We met with student-athlete advisory board, so we talk to some of the student-athletes. So we meet with people through the university and at this point in time we have had more than 70 different interview with people over the past two and half months. We cast kind of a wide net. We want to find out across all areas of the campus, what’s working well and what’s not working well."

After all the analysis has taken place, Poulous will essentially draw the blueprints according to its recommendations. It'll decide how much area is needed. Can it renovate or does it have to start anew?

"Eventually we start to price it and get it estimated," Radecic said, adding that the completion date for the plan is set for Summer 2016. "At the end the day they end up with a road map. They end up with a plan for all the sports and all the venues and what fits into campus and where they're located and what they’ll cost. That's a plan that they then follow for the next five, 10 or 15 years.”
