Portal Ideas

Hitting the portal today, Texas WR Joshua Moore. Former high 4 star WR. Had a breakout year in 2020 under the direction of MY. Could help replace Dotson.
I’d hit Texas hard. There is major dissension with that program. The pipe dream would be to prize Bijan Robinson from UT. Great RB and getting ruined by Sark

Love it given the connection to MY. We desperately need a playmaker WR next year. Washington and Lambert-Smith are okay but once Dotson is gone and if one of them needs to be our #1 it won't be great. Also hope Saunders turns out to be the real deal.

Problem is he’s been a bit of a bad apple
, but maybe that’s because of UTs implosion

Any offensive lineman out there? Can Sean Farrell or Mike Munchak come back?
Yeah that’s what we really need. I have yet to see any OL play with a mean streak this year. Don’t know why. If it’s lack of talent, personality, technique or a combination of those. Scruggs seemed to show aggressiveness in limited time at the end of last season but I haven’t seen that this year.

Parker Washington looks like he could possibly be the next, a la Hamilton/Hamler/Dotson, but we definitely need one more for next year, because Dotson is basically the entire offense at times.

I don’t think Washington has the breakaway speed that Dotson has and that Hamlet had.

Fair, but he’s an outstanding possession guy and could be more in the mold of D Hamilton. I also think it’s possible that K Lambert-Smith has another level in him we haven’t seen yet.

No one is going to replace Dotson so its not even fair to ask them too.
But there is some playmaking ability coming in with Kaden Saunders and Mehki Flowers.
And don't sleep on Harrison Wallace, Meiga or Marquise Henderson (which BTW where has he been?)

Same thing that was said when Hamler left. Rinse and repeat.

Dotson wasn't even Dotson prior to last year. Washington could improve his speed this off season and be a very similar player, but the reality is Dotson is more noted for his hands (he catches everything) and his jumps (OSU last year, Auburn this year) than his speed.

KLS has played great and its promising to see Meiga start getting snaps after being injured. Plus, the WRs coming in potentially all have speed.

Portal ideas. OL would be nice. A C or OT. DE or DT as well. Mike LB wouldn't hurt either. Maybe a RB. Attrition will be key.

What happened to "family"? I mean how do the coaches sell that when kids see the departures of so many guys who were family? That is a rhetorical question, more of a sigh than anything.

it’s not unique to penn state or to football. 85 kids on scholarship, having 100% of them happy all the time isn’t reasonable.

Take 43 couples that get married at 18/19 and follow them for 4 years. There’s gonna be more than a few divorces.(33% on average)

I think Franklin does do a good job of building the family environment more than some programs. I do think that helps in today’s portal world.

Guys will leave because they can. Everyone wants to play. If there isn't a clear path to playing time.....it's out the door. Have you looked around at families? LOL.....more than half of all marriages end in in divorce. The portal is a reality....Franklin didn't invent it, he, like all coaches, need to adjust to it. Good idea for fanboys too.

+100. Its really as simple as comparing it to the work place. So just pick 85 people out of your company. Are they all happy? Is everyone getting along?... the answer would be ohh hell no. LOL.

Then imagine how much unhappier they’d be if they were all teenagers with egos.

For every kid some worry is being pushed out the door, there are 5 kids looking for playing time. Maybe 6. It's just how it is. Coaches are bad for pushing a kid out, but kids are OK because it's their choice and benefit. Nah. It's part of it. Better get your degree while you are there.

family is great, makes for a good story on the recruiting trail. Fact is these coaches are paid millions of dollars to win football and will do whatever it takes to accomplish that.

Dotson worked on getting faster and obviously did. If memory serves he is the WR who "fell down" against Minny in 2019 near the goal line when a TD would have put PSU ahead. I believe if he makes that reception this year against any team he scores going away. There is hope for Parker in the speed department.

It is also a fact that a certain chemistry or esprit de corps is needed to create a winner. You can't have people pulling in 85 directions and hope to succeed in college football. I think that Franklin and staff do care for these young men and for several years are surrogate parents. That doesn't mean every one on one will be successful. There were many who hated Joe until they graduated and realized what he was trying to accomplish.

yes, i don't think they just take every portal kid that calls. I think they tyruly do vet the fit of the kid and the family.

I do too. I can't imagine how difficult it is with today's "star system," to plug holes (weaknesses) with the portal and usher out others who didn't work out..... I think Franklin is pretty adept at this.

Oh God, you didn't stay over on the other site? And please try to understand the meaning of the term "fanboy" if you insist on using it in every post, because it's far more applicable to fans like you with blinders on.
