Senior David Taylor vs Senior Vincenzo Joseph

Tale of the tape;

David Taylor:

2X NCAA Champ (defeated Tyler Caldwell - Oklahoma State (2014) Brandon Hatchet - Lehigh (2012)
4X NCAA Finalist (Bubba Jenkins - ASU (Loss 2011), Kyle Dake - Cornell (Loss 2013).
2X Hodge Trophy Winner

Vincenzo Joseph
99-9
2X NCAA Champ (defeated Isiah Martinez - Illinois (2017, 2018).
3X NCAA Finalist (Mekhi Lewis - Virginia Tech (Loss 2019) - (2020 NCAA cancelled).

I’ll take “2x Champs That Were Cradled In The Finals for $1000.”

Hard to believe. Just like IMar losing 3x ever, and twice it was by fall to PSU freshmen. Something about this sport makes us tune in.

IMAR was 2-1 vs Nolf, better than the guys DT beat. Cenzo amazing defense, and only had trouble with guys who could out horse the Clydesdale.

Cenzo, in college.

If cenzo gets ahold of you it's over doesn't matter who you are. The matchs with bull showed me he is ready to throw at a drop of a dime. Loved watching him wrestle. One of the all time favorites at psu

Cenzo is no Dake. No kryptonite for DT. Both in senior year DT wins 7-3 or so because he’s got so many fast flowing attacks.

I hear you, but it's tough to use those cement hips when your ankle is being picked. I have to go DT here.
No it was a real question because of that. I anticipated that somebody would come back with it could be hard to pick a guy with VJ’s lower back and neck strength. Was just throwing it out there.

Cenzo’s D is right there with “College” Dakes. Scrambling, not so much.
Big length advantage is too much,DT would “pick” Cenzo all night.

The more interesting matchup might be Bo Nickal and David Taylor. After all, didn't Taylor take Bo along as his wrestling partner at Worlds?

If we can normalize the weight, say 184, I would take Nickal over Bo, but close.

Assuming they were at the same weight, I think DT would have beaten Joseph. He had and has so many offensive weapons in his arsenal even if VJ has amazing defense.

A more interesting match (to me at least) might have been DT vs. Nolf (who has beaten VJ several times in freestyle and at least once in folkstyle I believe). DT vs. Nolf would have been explosive unending offense vs. explosive unending offense.

And, as others have noted, DT vs. Nickal would (or will) be quite intriguing. Keep in mind that DT has been training freestyle much longer and is a World Champion.

Aside: DT handled Ruth's athleticism with relative ease in their freestyle match -- using better technique and match strategy.

Gotta go with Taylor as a wrestling talent. If championships are the only thing that matters then Joseph had a good chance at getting his third. Plus Joseph faced tougher guys. Still Taylor and I don't think it's close.

College Taylor over College Cenzo, but closer than one might think, and not a lock. It could be like Martinez beating Cenzo 5 out of 7 times.

Remember that College Taylor wrestled cautiously against Jenkins and Dake -- championship caliber opponents with a strength advantage and familiarity. Cenzo would fit those categories as well. The Magic Man was not beatable, but the more tentative Taylor was.

Well, maybe the next PSU All Decade matchup could be RSFR David Taylor (157lbs) vs RSFR Jason Nolf (157lbs).

Would love to see this match in any form or in any year.

Nolf: Three-time champ. Four-time finalist Just two actual losses in college by 1 point each time to 2 time champ and 4 time finalist IMAR. 60 Pins (16 in one season). 86.6% bonus rate. Fierce beyond measure; dominant as hell; super creative; versatile scoring machine on his feet; and a punishing pace.

DT: Two-time champ. Four time finalist. Just 3 losses in college; 2 by 1 point to 4 time Champ Dake. 53 pins (16 in one season). 91.2% bonus rate. Slick and technical; dominant as hell; versatile scoring machine on top; and a punishing pace.
