Football PSU Athletics announces $1 million gift for the Beaver Stadium Revitalization project

Am I the only one that every time I see a $million(s) donation for the stadium renovation thinks that it would have a bigger impact on PSU football if said donation was directed to NIL instead of what seems like fixing a problem that doesn't exist?
I did a number of engineering types of work during my 40 year professional career, one of which many years ago was writing manufacturing process control and modeling software in a language called Ada. The language was very robust as it was used for GE Defense applications and many times our group would be challenged to fix problems that were really physical problems within the complex manufacturing process lines. Hence the conversations we'd have about the hardest things to fix are those that aren't really broke..........

But what if those same people also are contributing to NIL. I mean, they can do both, and many probably are.
Personally, I'd give it to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. But maybe they did both. My guess is that they have widespread philanthropic giving. Money most of us can't even imagine having.
We cannot allow the stadium to be a complete dump forever, not that I am a big fan of the approved plan.
And it's up to the donor to decide which cause they deem worthy. If I were donating a mil I would not want it to go to some some "collective", to have them hand it to some unproven, snotnosed "5 star" who may or may not amount to something.

I guess my idea of a great stadium is different from yours. I haven't been in the boxes/suites that now grace the top of the East stands, but they must be pretty nice. All I expect from a stadium is a seat and the availability of food and restrooms. To me it's about the game, the atmosphere, the home field advantage,.... And the atmosphere and crowds at Beaver Stadium are second to none. Would I be more comfortable in a real seat with a back and arm rests? Sure. Would it add to the game or to the atmosphere during a big game? NO. Same with bringing in name food vendors. I also don't need alcohol sold inside the stadium as more drunkin fans don't help with the atmosphere and always ups the number incidents at those venues over time.
In the current big time college football world NIL is how teams attract the very top players. It just is how it is. And since the options for attracting businesses to finance the collectives in State College is not what it is in locations such as Columbus, Eugene, College Station,..... the only way PSU will put together a roster on an even level with those teams is NIL. One could argue that a keen eye for talent and some luck might provide a roster to compete, and PSU is likely going to be a top 6 seed in this year's playoff, but anyone that believes PSU's roster talent is nearly at the level of OSU's isn't being honest with their evaluation.....

I tend to agree. Every time I’ve seen a team “upgrade” their stadium to meet certain fan’s expectations they tend to build nice facilities and, at the same time, kill the atmosphere into a stale NBA/NFL model.
UNC going from Carmichael to the Dean dome. NC St from Reynolds to PNC arena. Mile High in Denver to the Empower field. The old RFK in DC to that abomination in Maryland. The atmosphere just wasn’t the same after the change.
Newer isn’t always better. I’m afraid the Beav is heading in that direction. As much as I can’t stand Duke, I do admire them for keeping Cameron and not ditching it for some fancy new NBA type arena.
Yep, and PSU basketball would be in better shape with a 10-11K basketball arena along the lines of Rec Hall but bigger with more modern amenities than they are in the stale atmosphere of Bryce Jordan.
Agreed. The only thing I ever wanted was upgraded bathrooms and maybe widened concourses.
Penn State Football was known for tailgating - not eating in the stadium. The old school charm of the bleachers and the stadiums rising to the sky will be lost.
Almost there, only need 600 more millionaires to step up with a similar donation! Or maybe we'd have better luck finding 600 million people to each donate $1? 🤣
Yeah, I still get irritated thinking they have possible plans to take out thousands of seats between the 40s to put in a lounge with tables that maybe 40 people will be in and looking at the wine list rather than yelling at the game. Stop trying to copy the NFL. College atmospheres are so much better.
