Make everyone in the team feel better if there are no first/second/third teams? Or secrecy. Don’t like either TBH.
Fall camp is almost over. Every player will now be given a participation trophy and will attend a nice banquet to celebrate that all are equally talented.
This board will release its official depth chart shortly…..after about100+ messages.
Have to wonder if the transfer portal has something to do with this.

Good point. If you spotlight a guy is "3rd" string he might just enter the portal tomorrow and there goes some special team play and depth.
I think the 3rd stringers will figure it out pretty quickly.
We should be more concerned with the travel roster. Who's your surprise player to make the trip?
Totally, but not being publicly shamed and again, I am speculating and don't claim to know the minds of 18 year old's, maybe they appreciate not being "flogged" in their mind, in a very public way. It might comport to the "family" ideals better not to pronounce their status on the team. No idea honestly, just a thought.
I like this...and I like that it appears he is going to play more players. Building depth is very important. As the season goes on injuries build up. You never know who your diamonds in the rough are until you look for them. And of course the Portal may have forced his hand. Bring it...the season that is.
I would absolutely say the transfer portal has something to do with this. On a side note, another reason to put names on the jerseys.
But surely within the team they know where they are on the depth chart.
In 2018 the B1G bumped it to 74 players from 70, due to the new Redshirt rule.
The game week depth chart has been all but worthless under Franklin. Not sure why people thought it was useful.
As for surprises to make the travel team to Madison, I'll go with WRs Benjamin Wilson, Winston Eubanks and FR Harrison Wallace. Wilson won't play at all on Offense, but will play special teams. As for Eubanks, someone has to back-up Parker Washington in the slot. Harrison Wallace is just a guess based on some positive buzz out of camp.
The depth chart was never followed to a T anyway. Doesn't mean a thing to me that it's not getting released. Whomever plays on Saturday plays
Like mentioned we know 20 or so starters and probably many likely backups. Surprises are good! It means someone is probably stepping up. We just need the big guys in the middle to be ready and rested.
I agree, but why make a point of not releasing it? Just release whatever and don’t follow it if you don’t want to.

Just because a depth chart isn't being release publicly doesn't mean the players don't know what the depth chart is. The players surely know where they stand on the depth chart. This has nothing to do with it.
Why do you believe Franklin is going to play more players?
At positions such as DT and CB, where the depth is obvious, it seems obvious that more players will play than in year's past when there was less quality depth, particularly during games where PSU outmatches the opponent. Or possibly when games are played during hot/humid weather.
But at positions such as WR, where anyone not named Dotson or Washington that can actually catch a thrown football in a game and makes a play or two will provide a significant lift to the play of the WR's, why would "more players" than numbers that have played in the past under similar depth circumstances play more, or at all, in games that are still undecided? I don't believe we will see any more WR's play this season than what would have played in previous season, when PSU issued an actual depth chart. Even though for the most part the week's depth chart was more or less the result of the practices that led up to the previous game.
At LB, with little experienced depth, I'm also not holding my breath for Pry to replace the starters just to keep everyone happy.
Along the OL, don't hold your breath waiting for Walker and Wallace to get subbed for until a game is in hand for PSU, or one of the two gets nicked up.
Will Franklin take Clifford out this Saturday just so the other QB's can feel good about their PSU experience and think less about going into the Portal? Anyone that believes that should put a couple teeth under their pillows and look for a C note from the tooth fairy.
Franklin is paid to win games. Period.
PSU football is a big money business.
So I see this "no depth chart" announcement as more touchy feeling B.S. that in no way will lead to any changes in player use strategies, and really is a dis-service to the fans that closely follow PSU football.

As mentioned above, it’s probably so CJF doesn’t have 5 players in the portal by the time his PC ends on Tuesday, assuming that the PC will be made public the way things are going. I don’t think it has anything to do with game strategy as I’ve never heard a losing coach blame a loss on the lack of availability of a opposing team’s depth chart
Funniest post I’ve read in a while. We all bitched and complained about the depth chart they did put out and now we mad cause they aren’t posting one. That’s hold Jerry, gold.
