In mid-October, we will be welcoming a male Golden Retriever puppy into our home. Like many of you on this board, we have a culture problem which is also known as our love for Penn State football. Our previous Golden Retriever's name was Gifto. We named him after Pete Giftopoulus who intercepted the ball in the 1987 Fiesta Bowl against Vinny Testaverde and the Miami Hurricanes to secure the National Championship.

So now we need to pick a name for our new puppy. While Barkley would a great name, that is the puppy's dad's name and his mom's name is Nelly. One name under consideration is Mauti. As you all know, Michael Mauti was very instrumental in holding the team together in 2012. Any other names you think we should consider?

"Shoop" would be a good name, but the dog would probably be inclined to "run away" :)

That's the name of my niece's dog. They live in Germany and always need to explain the origin of his name.

When we got our puppy years ago, I suggested the name Beavis. My son (then about 8) thought for a minute, realized the implications of what his own nickname would become, and gave an emphatic "NO!". I am still proud of that boy.

I like Bentley or Butler. My -ex used to love to say "we live in Barrington and we have a Butler". And a friend of my brother in Austin has two Bentleys: a car and a dog.

AND

Fonzie suggested Mr C, Ritchie, Ralphie, Potsie or Chachi.

have had cats with ps names. first was nittany, then whiskers(nli bar),sapphire(twirler) and now, barkley.

You need a good, strong 2-syllable name. My dogs' names are Enzo and Lily. My daughter has a dog Callie.

Suggestions:
  1. Barkley
  2. Heisman
  3. JoePa
  4. Lavar

Barkley is an excellent name for a dog.

I usually try to choose a dog name that can be shortened (or easily bastardized) because I almost always call the dog something other than its name (unless I am mad at it and then it gets its whole name).

Golden puppies (well, goldens in general) are awesome. Enjoy!

Cooper
Copper ( if he is darker and is more red than golden)
Joe
Bob
Franklin

Doggy McDogface
Barkley McBarkface

If I really had to choose:
Posluszny (means 'obedient' in Polish)

Conner or Conner. For not only the outstanding linebacker Dan Connor at Penn State, but also that fine young man who plays for the Steelers who had to overcome so much adversity in life.
