I am curious about how people view Texas football and why. I know mbar and others may have connections to UT so please weigh in. I admit to not viewing the UT job and future of UT football as highly as others and here is why. Since 2010 to the present Texas has gone 44-39. Conversely Penn State, despite sanctions, has gone 52-33. So PSU has done significantly better. In that span Texas has had 3 losing seasons and appears to be headed for their 4th losing seasons in 7 years while PSU has had a winning record each year. Finally, after letting Mack Brown go Texas hired a coach who is/was universally considered to be one of the top coaches in the game. Yet he has not been able to win.
Of course Texas is one of the most fertile states for recruiting but they are competing with 3 big time programs in OK, A&M and TCU. And Baylor and TT have each been better than TX in recent years. My point is Texas has a lot of competition in-state for recruits.
I understand there is enormous money available to the university and program but don't all big time
programs have a ton of money? Let's face it, when the TX job came open they didn't have coaches like Meyer, Saban, Harbaugh, Gruden lining up to interview.
So with that as a back drop, what's the argument that Texas is still an elite program?
