Question about this board

Other team sites have a section for political, campus, administration issues and then there's football, basketball, other sports. Is there a reason there is no separation on this board? I'm hoping to come here and read all of the information about football, basketball and other sports but all of that is so minor compared to the other stuff. I'm not knocking anyone's desire to read that info as I do find it informative but does it have to be meshed in with the actual sports information? Can we keep the replies civil? I'm not slinging mud or insults at anyone so I hope those who reply do the same.

Can you provide a link to a board with the kind of separation you speak of? I've never seen anything like that. Thanks.

Thanks for stopping by. As a free board, this board has always seen plenty of off topic posts on a huge variety of topics.
We do have a test/politics board where most political topics are placed.
The reason you see so many political threads here these days is due to the Sandusky scandal. Since Penn State football was blamed for Sandusky, it is absolutely on topic here. All of PA politics seems to be embroiled in that mess...the BOT, Porngate....it's all related so it is viewed here as ON topic, not off.

Well sir you came to the wrong place then. We only talk about Pitt, if Barkley is going to play, why Bragalone never got an offer, and pitt again. Every once in a while football will be talked about which is a nice change of pace.

If you are in need of a new grill or lightly used foreign made SUV/Crossover, this is the place to be. Consumer Reports comes here and steals our reviews as their own.

We talk pretty good football once in awhile too.

uh really? Either a poor job at trolling or you don't know how to use the computer and click on the forums tab to see political and all the other forums... Not sure but post #6 ....

Seriously, not trolling at all. I've been reading this board since 2011 and comment occasionally. I was automatically drawn to this board because i had a freshman student-athlete when "it" went down, and I was a football fan. It was the best place to find out what was going on at the time so I certainly appreciate the information even though I don't always agree with some of the opinions. As a PSU sports fan, I just wanted to know where I can go here for updates on that specifically. I tend to bounce around to different sites to read what's going on. Thanks for the info, I'll browse the different forums.

You can often tell the topic covered in a thread by its subjet title. You do not need to read the ones (granted, there may be quite a few) that do not interest you.

Seriously, it's *relatively* safe to assume a topic is about some facet of Penn State football (or football in general) unless you see the following:

FC: Fair Catch; in case topic has been brought up before:
OT: Off Topic - wood chopping, time pieces, movie/TV show talk, etc. (anything *except* politics)

Otherwise, take a second or two to read the title of a thread and decide if it's worth reading. We all have to do that.

We are going to discuss what happened to us, how, and why.

I think that there are quite a few of us who view anybody who has a problem with that as PART of the problem.

Another thing that might be good to know: We've seen time and time again that posts like yours are made whenever our discussion gets "dangerously close" to the "sweet spot." LOL.

Oh, believe me I do get a lot of good information on here. But since it's high recruiting season and getting a new OC, etc. I'm just trying to find more info on that. Again, I didn't ask to insult anyone who comments on this board.

I'm not sure you'll find a lot of football Xs and Os talk now. It's a dead time before the bowl. I was over looking at the Georgia board the other day just to see their take and they aren't even mentioning the game other than they hope they don't have a let down after the coaching change and a thread of who wants to list off color Sandusky insults to Penn St. It's s little bit of a withdrawal period now. ;)

Understandable, and I do read some of that too. Obviously, I don't have the kind of history at PSU that many of you have so I'm in no position to question anyone's opinions, and as I said, I have learned quite a bit on here.

You're right. Just anxious for some more good news to flow. I enjoy reading others opinions about the coaches and teams. My son graduated in May and he has such love for this school, his team and coaches (non-football) and his experience the last four years.

Hopefully there's more good news on the recruiting front but I pretty much ignore it until signing day. Too many commits/ decommits and Twitter nonsense over that stuff. Just not worth it for me until they sign in February.

Bowls don't start until the 18th IIRC. I always like reading people's reports of how they are going, what a surprise team X is, quick- tune into bowl X as it's going to OT, etc. That will be starting soon enough.

I don't think we are going to know anything real about a new OC until the hire announcement is made. I think just about every name in the book has been mentioned the past week or so in a few threads. :D

I'm interested to hear what these master plans for the athletic facilities are and what the outside consultant said. The issues with fundraising on the board today are an interesting precursor to that debate once it's released.
